Revlon Matte Eye Shadow in "Aubergine": A Review

The Pen
I was at a drugstore a couple of weeks ago when I saw Revlon's new Matte eye shadows. I'd seen an ad for the Revlon Matte collection a couple of months ago and liked it so much that I bought one of Revlon's new matte lipsticks.

I wasn't sure if I'd like the eye shadows, but they came in pretty colors so I had to try one. I bought the Revlon Matte Eye Shadow in Aubergine for $4.99. It comes in an ordinary small black square compact and the Aubergine color looks like a dusty violet color that reminds me of an old Calvin Klein Eye Shadow that I used in high school.

Revlon claims that the suede like powder shadow glides over lids and provides high-impact color and a soft matte finish. When I tried it on later that day I saw that it really did feel like suede. It was very soft and easy to blend.

The Aubergine shade is my favorite shade of plum eye shadow that I've bought yet, its soft sophisticated and flattering to my brown eyes and skin. Aubergine is a color that can look like a pale wash of soft violet that looks appropriate during the day or a deeper violet that will create a flattering smoky eye look for me at night.

I thought matte eye shadow would look dry and old fashioned. But instead of it making my skin look dull the Revlon Matte actually created a soft suede finish that looks really chic and glamorous.

When I wore the Revlon Matte out, I didn't use a primer, so by the end of the day my eyelids became oily and when I got home I saw that the eye shadow wound up looking creamy and dewy like I meant for it to look that way. So I liked how it looked both ways but I'd wear a primer if I wanted to retain the matte finish throughout the day.

My only issue with the Revlon Matte shadow though is the fact that it can look streaky if you just throw it on. So you have to take a few minutes to really blend it well for the best results.

In the End..,

The Revlon Matte Eye Shadows surprised me because I didn't think matte eye shadow would look modern, but the Aubergine shade looks current. It's a versatile color that can look pretty and sweet or sexy and vampy depending on how much you apply. Revlon has made a really luxurious eye shadow for a cheap price. I love it 5 out of 5 stars.
