Revlon Matte Lipstick in "Cocoa Craving" Review

The Pen
Revlon's Matte collection debuted earlier this year, and as soon as I saw ads featuring the makeup I knew I had to try some things. I bought most of the lighter shades of lipstick earlier in the summer, including Nude Attitude, Pink About It, and Pink Pout, but this fall I decided to try the deeper colors. So a couple of weeks ago I bought a tube of the Cocoa Craving.

This tube sells for $7.99 at most drugstores.

Color of
Revlon Matte Lipstick in "Cocoa Craving"

This shade doesn't look exactly like cocoa to me which I think of as dark brown. In the tube it looked more like the color of toffee. It's a dark caramel shade with a slight reddish tone.

Once I applied it, it looked pretty much like it did in the tube and I only needed to swipe it on a couple of times to get the full matte coverage. Cocoa Craving isn't the most exciting color in the world, but I was really pleased with it. It's chic, subtle and sophisticated.

It's not a basic beige/nude color but it's also not a full on dark chocolate shade either. So I really think it's a great neutral shade for fall that's really easy to wear. And the best part is that it looked great against my skin tone, (I have a caramel colored complexion similar to Rhianna's or Beyonce's) and it made my teeth look incredibly white.

Texture of
Revlon Matte Lipstick in "Cocoa Craving"

The reason I've tried so many of the Revlon Matte lipsticks is because of the texture. I've tried a few matte lipsticks before that were dry and hard to apply. But these are the total opposite.

Cocoa Craving goes onto my bare lips smoothly and it actually feels creamy like a light lip balm. It doesn't feel dry so I never have to worry about my lips looking cracked or dried out once the lipstick has been on a few hours.

It gives my lips that suede-like matte effect that I love, but my lips still have a soft, creamy luster to them. And the matte lipsticks are versatile, if I want to switch it up and get a shiny sexy effect, I just layer gloss over it and it looks like I'm wearing a liquid lip color.

Wear of
Revlon Matte Lipstick in "Cocoa Craving"

It can last a good 4-6 hours if you don't drink or eat, but once it wears off it still usually leaves a soft stain behind.

In the End...

I love the Cocoa Craving lipstick. Since the lipstick is creamy and the color isn't too dark, it's low-maintenance and easy to apply, but it also looks very chic. So it's going to be my main neutral lipstick this fall.

If you think reddish browns look good on you I'd totally recommend this shade. It's great; it gets 5 out of 5 stars.
