Keeping a firm grip on heritage and an individuals culture is an ideal however the likelihood of continuing human life on the globe in a utopia is nearly impossible with the consideration of every unique individuals own idea of utopia. The modern materialism and consumerism are modern human ideals. When the time we live in now becomes in itself history and the modern material items we indulged in pollute the world inhabited by our offspring it will be evident, that ego, selfishness and irrationality are results of a society bent on proving to themselves that they are independent of any God or higher meaning other than themselves. Our offspring will see a disaster that resulted from self-interest. Contrary to Jacques Elluls statement "I see no other satisfactory model that can replace what the west has produced." there is hope that future people that inhabit this earth will come to an understanding that may seem far-fetched in comparison to modern ideals, the idea that humans can once again learn to live in harmony with their environment, respect it and respect their neighbor. Respect can only be realized when the self interest of the free-acting individual is abolished. When the evidence of mans 'achievements' that pollute the earth can be used as a warning.
The Enlightenment heritage has a definite value when applied to modern thinking. Many ideas presented during the Enlightenment should never cease they are the invaluable natural laws of society which should be expanded upon and applied to the everyday life of every individual. Rationality should take a broader perspective maybe just by looking at things in simpler terms such as wonders of nature being just that, natural wonders. What good are the scientific explanations of naturally occurring events? It may be said that it is an effort to better understand our universe, our world and it's people. But are these seemingly oblivious explanations taking our attention off of what would otherwise be considered most important? Enjoying living out the miracle of life on a naturally enjoyable world. Why must we test our limits?
Undeniably the West has and is continuing to exalt itself with questionable achievements at the expense of the lives of humans in other parts of the world. There is a median, a peace that would not be too far out of reach if it wasn't for arrogant egotistic world leaders. If every human being cared about human life as a whole, the whole of human life would inherently improve in quality. In such a scenario over-population could easily become an issue but nature has it's own horrifying ways of maintaining that delicate balance.
History has showed us how change continues to continue. Change seems to be developing a faster pace as if this age is nearing its conclusion. The inhabitants of this world quickly adapt to change in thought and environment. And the environment society creates for itself becomes what society wants it to be, no more, no less. The present becomes what collective conscience idealized. As history progresses there is always still more that is aimed toward. Will this bottomless pit remain bottomless? Or will self-interest expand out and into an endless array of other possible interests? Mankind is amazing, probably one of the most amazing things we will encounter. Is there anything more important to us than ourselves, should there be? Certainly the lives of our children should be considered above all else.

This is my only chance to live isn't it
Live a short while die and be dead
It's me here it's me in the ground
Here from nowhere gone to dissolve
I lost what was there once never to be found
Here as a flower that becomes the soil its roots once held to
Let me find a way to live for myself
Let me find a desire let me find in every passing moment this lifetime brings the continuing realizations of the size and the scope of my desire to cherish everything
When I am no longer spoken for last exhale closes one door and opens another ah fresh air I am the space between the stars

A Cliff to Fall
By SCR Baisden
I'm falling
Catch me
You'd rather have it apart hold on to nothing
Everywhere feels like life We're not divided
It's not like you look up at me from the ground and I'm standing on the edge I see you and jump
I'm atop a cliff I'll just use this ladder and step down
We are the same there is no distance
But I am on the edge I'm scared to come down
So I fall to my knees And you fly up here next to me and see the view and you fall to yours
And now you are here we help each other up stand and hold each other close
It was cold but now it's perfect
Step off`
We fall together
We fall to the ground and through it and out into the stars drifting and twirling
Between our eyes the background shifts but we are oblivious
With you the rest is forgotten and we fall through a dazzling rainbow aura holding drops of rain suspended in place each kissed by the light of all these stars
And all I see is you
All the time in time all the lengths all the measures all the things to consider all there remind me why it is that I continue it might just be because something more might happen but I will just continue to bask in fear nothing is there anyway what can you do when your world falls to pieces it was nice while it lasted I guess that's just the way it goes oh how that can not happen I cant handle going all the way up and falling all the way down I would hit hard I don't want to not be with you
When I see a soul like yours the time stands still universal reminders set in and there is nothing outside of us be with me always eternal companions make me happy
You're all I need without you I'm as good as dead

Living a dream
Pick me up with your wishes
Atop the highest mountain how much of this is ice
Stand
Heard the wind stop short silence showed itself to me
This is all for you
Time whispered in my ear you are here
The ringing of bells the sounding of trumpets
The sky is wrapped around you
A Circumstance
In a moment we would have heard it all
live a moment
This is what you get
Sit and enjoy this warm cup of tea
Abide by the scenery
Questions and answers
Have you seen?
This is what it's all about
Now I have seen
Now for a transformation
Notice anything different?
I'm still here it's still there
Where are you?
I'm here
And here

My feelings stretch across dimensions
I'll never glow the way that you glow

First my fingertips turn blue the frostbite tightens the skin all you did was exhale but it made me colder
Not that words could compile into a subject for delinquent trial
Failure to make comprehensible sounds
You want me to be sick
So call me crazy
Withstanding agony make me cry
You'll never see the courage I know
But as the cold swells the pulse the sight of desire will come in time
I call you mine
Breathe it in and breathe it out
I feel alive

With all of the worlds of emotion intrigue devotion set as stepping stones in your quest an important thing to remember is that your quest is your peace and contentment and it's always continuing and it is continuing now. You are always encountering experience as that is what you desire. There is something for which you observe and feel for before you now its always there in the moment It remains the same but different and differing as it moves. Part of it is you part of you is part of it but the balanced is maintained while it's ways change always there before you changing always.
As the dew on the grass became bathed in the warmth of the rising sun the beads of water held tight on the blades of grass and contracted and reflected the surroundings in a curvature that shown like mirrors in the morning light and every bead of water on every blade of grass saw the world through as a series reflecting captured glory.

But stay standing here you can reach obtain all your dreams
I will not interfere, you be who you are do what you do
This land is for you but wherever you go you will have the ground holding you up
Turn around and hug me hold me we will take off say good bye to that land, you have left behind a change continuous it will never be the same, life goes on down there even without you but look what you have done everyone smiles with every reason to do so because magic was destiny everything you see meant to be how all this change can occur in one lifetime there to hold witness the world just needed an influence you have realized utopia

Knowing Thought
By SCR Baisden
There is a notion that knowledge can be derived from the process of experience. John Locke was a philosopher that believed in this view. He developed his theory around the tabula rosa, or the clean slate. He believed that everyone was born with a blank tablet and that life's experiences created memories, learning, and knowledge. He believed that knowledge came from two sources : sensation & reflection. So, I understood this through example. Therefore, we are all born with a blank tablet that represents our knowledge. As we grow and develop through our infancy and childhood we are exposed to different sensory motor stimuli. We see, feel, hear, and smell our surroundings, and by doing so we gain memory of our surroundings. Memory is much like a library. We gain certain memories and catalogue them into our memory. As a famous philosopher, Kant, asserted that our minds have innate categories of understanding. The more memory that we gather the greater our knowledge becomes. When we gain a sufficient memory log then we are able to use reflection as a source of knowledge. We are able to reflect in our own mind, using memories in resource.
Furthermore, we have empiricist assumptions on the process of gaining knowledge. Under empiricism assumptions conditioning is possible, which primarily relies on the external world (as does empiricism). In conditioning, the behaviors that are learned are those that become associated with a certain stimuli in the environment. However, there is an opposite direction to looking at the gain of knowledge. The alternative to epistemology is rationalism.
Instead of gaining knowledge through sensory experience, rationalism is based on the assumption that the source of all true knowledge is logical thinking or reasoning ability. This is that not all knowledge comes directly from experience. Descartes was a famous philosopher that showed how not all sensory experiences can be trusted. Which conclude the capacity for sensory deception. He concluded that even though this type of deception is rare, we never know when our sensations are misleading our perceptions. Therefore, Descartes used skepticism as his basis for knowledge. Meaning that one can subject a topic to doubt, and if the topic if found lacking in certainty (or doubtable) then it cannot be a firm basis for knowledge. However, the only thing that Descartes found that could not be doubted was the fact that he was doubting. Therefore, he realized that doubting was a form of reasoning, and thus reasoning had to be the foundation of all knowledge. So in all, Descartes was the founder of modern rationalism.
With that understood, there are newer ways of viewing knowledge in the post-modern age. Thus rejecting both empiricism and rationalism. The ways of knowing are not left solely up to the individual mind, but put out more into a societal sphere. Social construction is now used, or the commonality of how people view their lives and understand certain things. This structure helps us to postulate what understandings are created through culture and which ones are more universal to all cultures. One can see how, from culture to culture, views can change. Western culture has very different views from that of Chinese cultures. I think it is interesting to note that when considering conceptions, the notion of progress has come to mean closer to the truth. Therefore, western civilization has been seen as contributing highly to the understanding of knowledge. Hence, even if an idea is lacking in completeness, if the idea is from the western civilization it is assumed more advanced. So, perhaps our understandings of knowledge are currently stemmed from the western culture minds only. Therefore, perhaps our current understandings of knowledge only conclude those individuals in the western culture and is not universal in understanding all cultures abroad. In any case ethnocentrism takes a major part in many ideas of today.
On an end note, I would like to discuss hermeneuticist views. I found this idea to be very intriguing. It states that the 'lived' world as more meaningful than the physical universe. In a sense, holding this 'lived' world as one that is an extension of our concerns. This lived world is up for interpretation, therefore, meaning and meaningful objects cannot be separated. So perhaps this lived world is in someway like our subconscious thought. Things that mean something to us are usually relative to memories that are not revealed even to ourselves, having meaning and objects with meaning becoming one in the same.
