AGE: Rhinoplasty should be performed only on those who have already gone through puberty. Most surgeons will not perform a nose job on anyone under the age of 13. And there are even other surgeons who will refuse any patient under the age of 16 as a prime candidate for rhinoplasty. This is because teenagers often go through a final growth spurt a few years after beginning puberty. During a growth spurt, the size and shape of a teenager's nose will likely change.
On the other side of the coin, there is there no age cut off in rhinoplasty surgery. Nose job surgeries have successfully been performed on people well beyond the retirement age. Older patients often had to wait for their nose jobs because they either couldn't afford it during their youthful years or didn't want to stir up trouble from family members by having it done.
PHYSICAL HEALTH: Do you have any medical conditions which could put you at risk of complications during or after your rhinoplasty? Even just having a cold could mean postponing the surgery until you are well again. A good surgeon will perform preoperative tests. These tests are done prior to your nose job surgery and will check for any underlying health problems you may have that would diminish your chances of a undergoing a successful surgery.
EMOTIONAL HEALTH: True, most people going in for a nose job are doing so to feel better about how they look. But there is such a thing as caring about your appearance for the wrong reasons. You must be doing it mainly for yourself. Also, don't expect perfection. Having an improved appearance to your nose will not necessarily mean it'll make you into that drop-dead gorgeous bombshell who you always admired. Be realistic about what rhinoplasty can do for you.
AFFORDIBILITY: A typical rhinoplasty costs anywhere from $3,000 to $6,000 or more, depending on the surgeon and where you live. Make sure you have a sound method of paying for your nose job. If you went this long with your natural nose, then you can certainly wait until you've saved up enough money for at least a nice-sized down payment on your rhinoplasty surgery. It would tragic if your happiness from having a nose job was upstaged by your anxiety due to having long-term debt.
Figure out if a nose job is right for you before pursuing rhinoplasty. This will save you both time and money.
