Beginning January 1, 2011, the Gold Coast restaurant Ria will close until January 24, 2011. The reason for the temporary closing is the kitchen staff will be traveling to New York to conduct some research. What type of research that is being conducted seems to be a bit of a secret, but hopefully, we'll find out once they reopen at the end of the month. My co-worker gave me the basic scoop on the temporary closing, but the rest of the details were sketchy.

This restaurant, which is in the Elysian Hotel, located at 11 East Walton Street in Chicago, was where my aunt and uncle wanted to go for dinner when they arrived here from New Jersey, because they heard it received two Michelin stars. The Ria is now in an elite class of restaurants, because it is a rare honor to garner two Michelin stars, a prestigious award in the restaurant industry. I'm not sure if the entire restaurant staff will be taking the trip to the Big Apple, or if only the kitchen staff will be going.

It will be interesting, however, to see if they apply their research to the restaurant upon their return.
