RIAA Stop MP3 Lawsuits and Comes Up with a New Slightly Devious Plan

Marsha J
We've all heard about the lawsuits that the RIAA have started against thousands of internet users, including children, single mothers, and even dead people. However, music sales continue to fall and they have realized that suing computers users one at a time is not working and its all not bringing good press towards their organization.

Lawsuits that were previously filed will still go forward but they are now moving in another direction. If they find out that you have downloaded illegaly MP3 files, you won't be sued but they will send out a letter of complaint to your ISP (Internet Service Provider). If you don't have the internet, you can't download illegal files. The plan does make sense. Even more, this new plan is likely to hurt those who download and upload excessive amounts of material, so regular users will probably stay clear of this ongoing battle.

Some say that the plan is devious because while the RIAA says that they hope the ISP will send out warning letters, most feel that the internet providers will simply cut off the users internet without warning. There are other possible problems as well. The ISP's could simply let you download and then send you a surprising new bill that adds on the cost of the illegal downloads. I don't think that most people will be happy to see a $2000 internet bill.

Regardless of how anyone feels, I guess at the end of the day the solution is simple. Don't download illegal files and you can simply watch this fight from the outside looking in.
