Gale Street Inn is fine dining restaurant that specializes in ribs, on Diamond Lake In Mundelein, Illinois. Mundelein is in Lake County and is a northwest suburb of Chicago.

The restaurant, with a nautical, steakhouse atmosphere is across the street from Diamond Lake, and enjoys a view of the lake. People who have eaten at Gale Street Inn several years ago, may remember it's previous location, directly on Diamond Lake. The old building has been taken town, to make room for condominiums. Gale Street Inn moved to the restaurant building across the street.

The large restaurant has a nice layout, with a spacious foyer, large bar with lake view, and a roomy dining room. There is a gas fireplace in the center of the room. Tables along the windows have the best view of the lake.

Gale Street Inn is one of my favorite restaurants for a nice meal. Last week I ate there for lunch as part of a party of four.

We met in the lobby as were escorted to a table next to the window. It was nearly 1:00 pm and the restaurant was not busy. There were a few occupied tables, which were spread out throughout the dining room.

We were greeted by our friendly server who took our drink orders. We each ordered a glass of wine, Cabernet, Merlot and White Zinfandel. The wines were served in generous sized glasses. The bus person brought us a basket of warm rolls and butter.

We read the menus as we sipped wine and ate our rolls.

The lunch menu carries many of the same entrees as the dinner menu. There was a selection of steak, barbecued ribs, prime rib, shrimp, seafood, hamburgers and other restaurant fare. The restaurant is best know for their ribs. They also serve excellent steaks and prime ribs.

We all ordered off of the lunch special menu. I order the prime rib. One companion ordered tempura shrimp. Two ordered the shrimp and ribs combination plate. The specials that we ordered ranged in price from $10.00 to $12.00. This was about the average luncheon price, although sandwiches and hamburgers were available for less.

The server brought us each a cold glass plate for the salad bar.

The restaurant has a large salad bar with fresh vegetables and some salads. As usual, everything looked so good that I heaped my plate with lettuce, spinach, beets, garbanzo beans, cucumbers, cheese and cole slaw. I practiced some restraint and skipped the buttery croutons. The salad bar also has liver pate and bread sticks. The home made dressings are on the bar. I chose the garlic, which is creamy and has a strong garlic taste. Note: If on a romantic date, you might want to either skip this, or agree to both eat it. There is a pepper mill on the salad bar, so I ground some pepper on top of this tasty work of art.

After we had finished out salads, the the bus person cleared our plates, our luncheon entrees were brought.

My prime rib was a generous cut, cooked medium, as requested. There were boiled potatoes with the meat. The other entrees also looked very appealing. The tempura shrimp were cooked golden brown, with a crispy coating. The rib and shrimp combinations had two fried shrimp along with a half slab of ribs in barbecue sauce.

We all agreed that everyone's food looked wonderful and each said the lunches were delicious.

We enjoyed a wonderful, unhurried lunch with gratifying, filling food that was well prepared and tasted good.

Gale Street Inn is the kind of restaurant where you could enjoy a second glass of wine or after dinner drink, without feeling hurried to leave the table. However, we didn't. After dinner, the server asked if we wanted to order dessert and coffee, but we were all full and declined.

The server brought us the check, which totaled a little over $70.00, for entrees and one glass of wine each for four people. We enjoyed our lunch at Gale Street Inn and would definitely return for lunch or dinner.

A pepper mill at the salad bar. Now that is one sign of a good restaurant.
