Rich Gedman and John Tudor Respond to Autograph Requests
Former Teammates Sign Cards Through the Mail
Both played for the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals and were teammates in the early 1980s.
I sent an autograph request to Gedman on Sept. 11, and 98 days later success.
The wait surpasses Pete Incaviglia as my longest wait.
Gedman began his career with the Red Sox in 1980.
His 1990 season was split between the Red Sox and the Houston Astros.
He played his last two years with the St. Louis Cardinals.
During his career, Gedman appeared in two American League Championship series and pitched for the Red Sox in the 1986 World Series against the New York Mets. He is also a two-time All Star.
Currently Gedman is the manager of the Worcester Tornadoes. The team is part of the Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball.
Tudor was also a long wait as I sent him an autograph request on Oct. 22.
Fifty-seven days later I can log success for him.
Like Gedman, Tudor began his career with the Red Sox. Tudor signed on in 1979, a year before Gedman.
Tudor pitched the 1984 season with the Pittsburgh Pirates before going to the Cardinals in 1985.
His 1998 season was split between the Cardinals and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
He returned to the Cardinals for his last season in 1990.
During his career, Tudor pitched in three National League Championship series and three World Series.
The two responses bring my success total to 16 while my failures stand at 10.
My latest failures to report are Bret Saberhagen, Mark Langston, Andy Hawkins, and Mickey Morandini. All requests came back return to sender.
I have resent the Hawkins and Morandini requests to new addresses.
Others that I have sent requests to are Livan Hernandez, Latroy Hawkins, Tony Pena, Omar Vizquel, Tim Wakefield, Tommy John, Steve Garvey, Ron Gant, Bryan Harvey, Tommy Lasorda, Ray Fontenot, Jason Thompson, Ed Hearn, Leon Durham, Franklin Stubbs, Larry McWilliams, Dave Winfield, Jay Tibbs, Mike Scioscia, Ken Howell, Eric Davis, Shawon Dunston, Randy Milligan, Tim Burke, Jay Bell, Danny Tartabull, Joe Magrane, Roger McDowell, Rick Aguilera, Nick Esasky, Kevin Seitzer, Dave Burba, Chris Sabo, Charlie Hayes, Tommy Gregg, Jerry Reed, Junior Ortiz, David Segui, and Mariano Duncan, Derek Lilliquest, and Andre Dawson.
