Richard Roberts, Lindsay Roberts: Oral Roberts University Lawsuit
Let me begin by saying that in this country, you are innocent and must be "proved" guilty, and this is the case in the Oral Roberts University lawsuit against Dr. Richard Roberts, Dr. Mark Lewandowski, Dr. Wendy Shirk, and Dr. Jeff Ogle. The plaintiffs are Dr. John Swails, Dr. Tim Brooker, and Dr. Paulita Brooker. The case against Dr. Richard Roberts and the other basically states that the university had students participate in political campaigning events, and used some of Oral Roberts University's money for personal needs. They also accused Dr. Richard Roberts' wife, Lindsay Roberts (who I personally think is a great woman of God) of traveling with University security guards and giving scholarships to friends' children. I personally hope that both Richard Roberts and Lindsay Roberts are cleared in this Oral Roberts University lawsuit; do you want to know why? Good, I knew you wanted to hear my opinion, here it is. Oral Roberts University is the only Spirit Filled University in the country that is accredited and has earned its reputation of being a quality school. I don't want to see that lost.
Richard Roberts has stated that the lawsuit is only about money, which wouldn't surprise me, the plaintiffs are seeking financial damages.
I don't know, I am not a lawyer, but if students attend Harvard, and take political science, aren't they allowed to participate in political events? I think that the issue is blurred because Oral Roberts University is a Christian University, however when it comes to education, what is more important? Political science education or your non-profit status? It would be incredulous to believe that students in Christian universities cannot have anything to do with political activities. I don't know if this is the case with Richard Roberts and the Oral Roberts University lawsuit, but if it is, it will be interesting to see how it turns out. In a perfect world, it seems to me that Christian students who take political science should be allowed to participate in political functions. However, I am over my head here, I really don't care for politics much at all. I really never agreed with the separation of church and state, and this incident is a clear example. It is really about the "non profit" status. Other students would be awarded for serving in political campaigns with fervor and commitment.
One thing I found interesting was that the plaintiff Tim Brooker, states that he fears for the future of ORU. Well, if you fear for the future of the university, why are you suing? I don't know, it just doesn't seem all that scandalous to me, but maybe they aren't reporting everything. I mean, if I were friends with the President of a college, I would hope they would help my child get an education. I am sure the president of many academic institutions have opened the doors to friends and family members, it's called connections. I didn't know that was a crime. But then, I am not a lawyer, so we'll see what type of crime was committed when enrolling friends' children at Oral Roberts University.
Ok, well one thing I do believe is that Richard Roberts and Lindsay Roberts are praying people. I believe their prayer board is for real, and from what I can see with the official records being released, Richard Roberts and Lindsay Roberts are in no financial wrong with the IRS. Their school has basically resurrected from the dead and I don't think it is going to stop so easily. I pray it doesn't, I think it is an awesome testimony and serves as one of the greatest testaments of Pentecostal history in the nation. My prayers are with both Richard and Lindsay Roberts and that Oral Roberts University will stand strong against this adversity. Honestly, I think the basis of the issue lies with the Supreme Court and whether or not non-profit Christian university students can practice political science, and in my opinion, if they are going to be educated in politics, they should be. You can't tell me that in other universities students are not participating in campaigns.

I am a 1979 graduate of Oral Roberts University. I had
(and continue to have) tremendous respect for the professors at ORU. I read the allegations of the lawsuit and had NO trouble believing them. Richard and Lindsey Roberts are not royalty and should not be behaving like they are, flying around in their own university paid for jet plane. Richard and Lindsey were paid a salary of over $800,000 /year between OREA and ORU.+ every living expense paid. Do you think that was showing ANY fiscal responsibility and leadership?

The Lord provides through his people and many, of
whom we don't hear have been blessed in ways we can not describe, and blessings come from area's we the least expect it from. I myself have given and donated
to shelters and other area's where people have been praying for needs and they even don't know that I have been one of the so many that donated.Even if they have given to the ORU ministries or some other ministry.
Blessings and answers to prayers come from Him
and the Glory belongs to Him.
What I was referring to is that the whole Christian concept has been put on the spot because of some complaints: read the court papers and wow, what were they up to? The ORU has been instrumental in so
many area's for years and it would be sad to see
that go and which might result in ripple effects through the whole nation.

Oral Roberts is indeed a sweet man if you are willing to give him your life savings(he suggests that God can only bless you financially if you "sow your seed of faith" by giving to his cause. Oral says "Give to the Lord but make the check out to me".
How can anyone listen to either this man or his spawn for longer than ten minutes and not sense the deception in his profile and his pitch is something of a mystery to me.
Some of the comments mentioned the Bible's admonition that "You will know them by their fruits" Is it so hard to see through the veneer of Richard and Lindsey Roberts? What kind of a person will suck up the last hard-earned farthing some poor christian has given to God and spend it on their own self-centered wants?
The Bible says a lot of things including " Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do - do it with thy might". I hope the truth is exposed in this situation and that justice is done.

He squandered money sent in by the very people that need help the most, the downtrodden, the poor, the disadvantaged. They are the poeple that cannot afford to "waste" money. He would brag regularly about "new" cars, a "jet" and other extravigences right on his own weekly TV SHOW. He claimed they were given to him by "God", yeah, "God". It was the PEOPLE he scammed that gave ALL THE MONEY, not GOD.

Well, Richard Roberts recently resigned as President of ORU as of immediately. What an accomplishment of the three professors:-(. Without him who is going to be in the lead at ORU or on tv. All the other people and regents have other things on their minds.
You really don't even need to address "touch not thine anointed" in this situation. It is much simpler than that. Either the law was broken or it wasn't. However, going public with those allegations without proof is pretty low. I believe the Roberts have had a gag order placed on the proceedings, and no wonder.
The "anointed" in Psalms certainly isn't talking about her. Please don't just grab a verse from anywhere in the Bible & try to make it aply to any situation.
