Rick Perry on the Debt Deal

Lorraine Yapps Cohen

Rick Perry remained quiet while the debt dealers took sides. Romney finally announced as "against," err, make that "unable to support," following the polls. The President, as always, was his impudent self, demanding an extension of debt -- and getting it at the expense of defense.

But the notable thing to note is Rick Perry's quiet. The man knows to keep silent in an unwinnable argument. Not that we would expect him to say. After all, he's not a candidate. Yet.

This makes more than a few people wonder: Just when will Rick Perry announce? He must know something the rest of us don't. His track record for winning every race he enters is nothing short of remarkable. He has held the Texas state governorship for more than ten years. Polls have him right behind Romney despite not having announced. I'm thinking that he's thinking of the perfect timing for entering the big race.

Goodness knows we need some 'hope and change' of a different ilk. Perry stands for the kind of change that would revive the nation's business and trade. Stated differently and perhaps more accurately, he would get government out of their way.

So, it's no surprise that his silence speaks loudly of disdain for the debt deal that came down. It appears Rick Perry wants none of it as a source of funding for big government. As the saying goes, if you can't say something good, don't say anything at all. No sense raising the roof if nothing positive comes of it.

And that appears to be working so far for Rick Perry.
