Rick Ross "Teflon Don": Deemed Inappropriate by John Gotti Family

Is Rapper Rick Ross a Hard Core Gangster or a Wannabe?

Meg G.
Rick Ross has a new moniker, and that's "Teflon Don." This name is deemed inappropriate by the John Gotti family. Those who are fans of the famous mob may remember that Gotti was nicknamed "Teflon Don" because of his inability to get convicted for any crimes. They made the charges, but they didn't stick!

The Rapper is releasing an album, and it's creating quite a stir.

Carmine Agnello says that the MC should have asked for permission to use the name in his album. He told New York Daily News that "A stand-up, respectable guy would come and ask, 'If I could use the nickname.' "

The grandson also implied that Rick Ross's choice of "Teflon Don" was not original and that his grandfather paid his dues for the nickname.

In addition to using the name of an infamous mobster, Ross was also a corrections officer in the past. Rick Ross notes that he used "Teflon Don" as the name of the album because it was his former rap name.

The rapper was also sued for trademark infringement infamous drug pusher "freeway" Ricky Ross. He also released a mix tape, The Albert Anastasia EP which is a tribute to another organized crime mobster. For some reason or another, Rick Ross is trying to align himself with infamous mobsters and drug dealers in order to get the street credibility needed to sell a rap record.

So who is this Rick Ross character?

Born in Mississippi as William Leonard Roberts II, the rapper was raised around the Miami area. He had a stint as a correctional facility officer in the 1990's in Florida, of which the Smoking Gun outed him. He tried to deny his past, but after he was sued for $10 million for aligning himself with Ricky Ross the truth came out.

So what do we have? Do we have the quintessential ganster? The hard-core criminal who wrote his rhymes while serving time? Or do we have just your average guy who has a lyrical talent with no street cred, who's too smart to go out and just start committing crimes in order to jump-start his career? The true test will be in his album sales. Pending litigation could potentially block the release of the album, but if he has a strong fan base they will speak out.

So what do we have? A smooth rapper or a lyrical poser? You decide.

I don't care if Rick Ross was a FBI Agent..hell I don't care if he was a FED he STILL makes good music and thats why he's sold Millions of records..

Yall look deeper into it than the average fan. Why don't you listen to the album before you bash him?

He even says on the album, he did the C.O. stint to make money to feed his family and to cover his peeps..it is what it is..

Rick Ross makes great music, he has many fans. Whether you like him or not Teflon Don will be the #1 album in the country this week..

A glaring example of this greaser Carmine's idiocy is that he's mad at a rapper for naming his album after John Gotti's tabloid nickname, but he's completely ignoring rapper Yo Gotti or producer/music mogul Irv Gotti -- two people who have actually taken on the Gotti family name! Carmine is just angry that the mob barely exists anymore. AND WHAT ABOUT THE MEMPHIS RAPPER NAMED TEFLON DON???
