Rick Ross' Trilla Not as Memorable as Stand-Out Debut

The Reviewer
Rick Ross is one of the fresh new faces in hip hop. His gold-selling debut album, Port Of Miami, yielded hit singles Hustlin' and Push It. Now Rick is back with his follow-up album. On his sophomore album, Trilla, Rick Ross is hoping to avoid the dreaded sophomore slump. Will Rick Ross be successful in his attempt?

The first single off of Trilla is Speedin' produced by The Runners and featuring R&B heavyweight R. Kelly. The song was the perfect choice for a first single. The song is definitely one of the more commercial tracks on the album. The song features a very catchy beat and a strong chorus delivered by R. Kelly.

The second single off the album is The Boss featuring T-Pain and produced by Jonathan "J.R." Rotem. The song is what you would expect from a T-Pain song however the production from JR is not up to his typical commercial level. The song is definitely harder than other singles out on the market now.

On the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League Maybach Music, Rick Ross is joined by former label head Jay-Z. The song is definitely catchy and well produced. On the track the chemistry between Rick and Jay is easily evident. Also the track shows that Jay still has it lyrically.

Rick Ross is joined by Lil Wayne, Trick Daddy and Young Jeezy on the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League produced Luxury Tax. The clear star on the track besides the standout beat is Lil Wayne who is lyrically on fire on the track. Young Jeezy, Trick Daddy and Rick Ross himself also deliver solid verses.

Here I Am is one of the more commercial tracks on the album. The Drumma Boy produced song features Nelly and Avery Storm. The song has radio hit written all over it.

Mannie Fresh produced and is featured on All I Have In This World. The song is definitely a typical modern-Mannie Fresh produced track. The song lacks the urgency that is needed in this type of track.

The Bink produced We Shinin' is one of the biggest sounding tracks on the album. The song has an epic feel to it with its 70's soul sample.

The DJ Toomp produced This Me is one of the strongest tracks on the album. The song captures the magic between DJ Toomp and Rick Ross. The song has commercial appeal and is just very solid.

Trilla is not as memorable as Port Of Miami, yet it is a very solid album. Trilla gets 7.5 out of 10. If you are a fan of Rick Ross, make sure you pick up Trilla when it is available in stores on March 11.
