I acquired a Riddex from a family member who was sweet enough to buy me one. There is a good chance that she was just tired of me continually talking about my encounters with black widows in my house.
I was a bit sceptical about it. I know that some ultrasonic devices can work wonders on mice that try to come into your house. I have seen the difference, though I have never seen these devices do anything for bugs. Either way I was excited at the idea that my widow friends would not longer give me a heart attack from popping up all over my house.
The Riddex is very easy to use. You plug it into the wall and make sure that if something is in front of it it is a few inches away. That's it! The instructions do say that you might see even more bugs and such for the first few days or so. It is them coming out of the woodwork and trying to get away from the horrible noise they hear from it.
Shortly after I plugged it in I did see a couple spiders (not widows) zig zagging across my kitchen and living room floors. Was it the Riddex? Were they drunk? Are there little spider bars near my house? Not sure, Google maps aren't that detailed. A couple months passed and I didn't really see too many bugs but it was still rather cold at that point and they usually are hibernating a bit.
As spring came bug activity was still the same, not too many were seen. That is until one fateful night I was innocently sitting on the couch watching TV. Out of the corner of my eye I saw I was not alone on my couch. I looked down and in complete shock I discovered it was a cockroach. Some may not understand my shock but I have NEVER seen a cockroach in my house or any house I have ever lived in for that matter, ever since I was a child. I didn't even think they lived in my area that is how much I have never seen one.
I was mad, upset, grossed out and the black widows were starting to look pretty good to me. I caught my couch buddy, put him outside and thought ok one and he's gone so just make sure everything is tidied up and clean and all will be fine. That night I heard rustling on a box by my bed. I turned on the light and 2 little eyes were staring back at me and they were not my kitties. Groggy as I was I scooped him up and threw him outside.
I started to suspect the Riddex was the cause. Yes, the one device that touts to rid any place of roaches and more I suspect was causing my first ever encounter with roaches. I did some googling and found many others talking about the exact same thing and even some YouTube videos of roaches having party's behind the Riddex.
I thought I would give it a little bit to see what happens. Though every time I heard any tiny rustling I cringed thinking it was my newfound unwanted roach friends. I found myself praying to see my black widow friends instead. After two more couch experiences with the roaches I decided I was going to remove the Riddex.
The very next morning I did. For fear "they" might hear me I am typing this softly. Since the day I removed the Riddex, about a year ago, I have not seen even one cockroach (knock on wood.) If for any reason I see one after this we know that cockroaches read reviews on the internet.
If you are a bug enthusiast and love the little antenna-wearing, atomic-bomb-surviving cockroaches, I highly recommend you buying a Riddex. Heck, I say get one for every outlet if that is the case. I will say that the family member that got it for me has not experienced the same. Though, if you are the average person who prefers to get rid of bugs and not invite more in, then from my experience I cannot at all recommend the Riddex.

Post a CommentI, too, tried the Riddex....NO GO!!! I then found another product called the Pest Offense that has worked great!! Turns out the company that own the pest offense is the only one to have the patented technology and the only one to have done a 5 year University study to prove efficacy. I have been very pleased with the results and so have my neighbors who all tried it after I had successful results
Thanks for the info. Hope everything's better for you now!
Oh my goodness! Thank you for the warning! Cockroaches are beyond revolting. I'm sorry you had this experience!
