Riddle School, a Cult Classic

Inspired by Tom Fulp's Pico's School

Riddle School is an online puzzle created using Flash animation technology. The artwork, animation, and programming for Riddle School were done by Newgrounds.com user JonBro. Music for this creation was credited to Pepsileo for THE TEMPLE and Cheshyre for madness 6. Tom Fulp was cited as a source of inspiration. This cult classic was submitted to Newgrounds.com on May 25, 2006 and is the first in the Riddle School series.

Background

The author of this submission created this after a few months long hiatus from creating content for Newgrounds.com. Inspired by another cult classic Pico's School, which was created by the now considered ancient Flash 3, Riddle School involves solving a series of puzzles to escape the school to freedom. The author claims in the in-game disclaimer that Riddle School is less vulgar and violent in comparison.

Gameplay

You play as the main character, who is a student that is currently trying to escape school. You are first found in class with a teacher lecturing about mathematics. Your first goal is to get out of the classroom. Once you do, you will be faced with a series of puzzles that will require you to interact with your surroundings. Click on items to collect them. Once an item is collected, it can be used by clicking on the image of the object that will appear at the bottom left hand corner of the screen.

Dialogue boxes can be clicked on to progress through the conversations. Clicking on different objects in your surroundings will have the main character, the rebellious student, narrate a little description about the object that you have clicked. Some objects can give you clues about how to solve puzzles, but most descriptions are there just for kicks.

Find your way out of class, get past the hall monitor, and obtain the keys to your freedom from this low-budget school.

Review

Riddle School stands up to be a good tribute to Tom Fulp's renowned Pico's School ActionScript-based Newgrounds.com creation. The puzzles themselves are not too difficult, but a walkthrough is provided in the Author Comments section of the submission's website for those who need a little extra help.

Riddle School scores a 6/10 for its mild level of entertainment value.
