Right Out of High School and Moving to Vegas

Dawn Krakowski
It's crazy right? Eighteen years old, just graduated high school, what is a girl to do? How about take a permanent vacation to fabulous Las Vegas! Casinos, bars, nightclubs, wedding chapels on every corner, isn't it great? Now, wait a minute, don't you have to be twenty-one to do all those things? Oh no, now what do I do? You're probably thinking that I'm just some crazy teen who got the idea in her head that she could live the high life in the crazy city of Las Vegas. Well, in reality none of that is why I moved here. Before the summer of 2008, I lived my whole life in the middle of Colorado. My family moved out to Vegas the summer right before my senior year, and I wanted to finish my high school career at the same school along with all of my friends and the people I had grown up with. I was fortunate enough to have a place to stay, so I spent most of my first semester in that house, but then ended up moving into my grandfather's empty house and spent the next six months living alone working part time to pay for food and gas. My family went out to Colorado to see me graduate and actually take me with them. The same weekend I graduated I drove back with my family to start my life in Vegas.

It does sound crazy though doesn't it? As of right now I'm not going to school, for several reasons, but I'm working trying to get things going in my life. Ironically, I met a wonderful young man about a week after I moved out here. We have been inseparable since we met and I am so grateful for both him and my family. I've also gotten to be really good friends with my boyfriend's best friend, and the three of us hang out a lot and have a lot of fun. Those two are the only people I know here other than my family, and it means the world to me that the few people I know here care so much about me.

Anyways, I suppose that this whole ramble is just me telling my story of how I went from high school to Las Vegas in one weekend. I was so nervous and scared before I moved, but now I'm so happy that I did and can't imagine if I tried to move back.

In April 2011 I married the most amazing man, and want to put more effort and time into my writing. I love to play video games and spend time with my husband.  View profile
