Righteous Kill

It's Robert De Niro and Al Pacino doing what they do best - bringing their characters to life. Bad guys, good guys, it doesn't matter because these two actors get you immersed in the roles they play. They effortlessly make their characters believable and you can't help but empathise with them.

John Leguizamo, Donnie Wahlberg, Brian Dennehy and Carla Gugino round out the supporting cast

Tow veteran police detectives played by Robert De Niro and Al Pacino hunt down a serial killer on New York's streets. Criminals who have escaped justice make it seem like an obvious spree of vigilante killings.

The plot is basic crime / drama, but nothing is obvious in this well directed movie. The intricately written storyline weaves us into the psychological depths of two police veterans who've simply seen too much during their years on the force.

Multiple murders, all apparently linked. The suspect list focuses on members of the NYPD. Although it's not a novel idea, the movie makes you forget that. The plot twists and turns and just when you've figured out the ending, it takes a quick right and you have to start over again.

Although director Jon Avnet has been working in TV, he's not been involved in the movie world for some time. He directed "Fried Green Tomatoes" in 1991 and then "Up Close & Personal" (Robert Redford, Michelle Pfeiffer & Stockard Channing) in 1996. Russell Gewirtz wrote the 2006 crime/drama, "Inside Man" (Denzel Washington, Clive Owen & Jodie Foster).

Excellent acting and good plot twists make this a great one to watch.
