Rihanna Man Down - Emotional Abuse, Rape, Murder, Retaliation, is it Art or Does it Send Out the Wrong Message

I wouldn't be so upset about the response to the "Man Down" video if people were truly outraged at the way she was beaten senseless the first time around. Chris Brown really, really, let her have it. But at the end of the day Chris Brown and Rihanna have their own demons to deal with. They are both sick individuals.

Neither Chris Brown or Rihanna want to deal with what happened. She says that she forgives him, but it is doubtful that she ever did. He says that he moved on, but on his first mix tape with Young Money it was clear that at least one or two of those songs is about what happened. All of her songs since the incident have taken on dark sexual themes. Now she murders a rapist at the beginning of a video, not at the end and she shoots him in the back from a elevated location. An artistic statement that is meant to show the fear and loathing that a rape victim goes through, and also a statement that shows just how difficult it is to act at the time because of the paralysis and catatonic effects of the violence that is being carried out against them.

They are both sick individuals if you ask me. I doubt that young women are going to be killing their rapists from now on; women have been conditioned to accept violence within their relationships and this video will not have much of an impact one way or the other. On the other hand, if the fear of being murdered keeps a young man from raping a woman that is not a bad thing either, but it is doubtful that this video really adds anything to the conversation. The Parents Television Council should be consistent about the mixed messages that we are sending out children anyway. Violence is the norm on television and in a lot of ways sexualized violence is becoming the norm.

If you want disturbing messages, you should watch her video with Eminem, or any of her videos since she was a good girl "gone bad"; you have to wonder if they are just now waking up to the messages in her videos. Rihanna lost her mind a long, long, time ago ...
