Rihanna's New 'S&M' Music Video

Today Rihanna released her new music video for her song 'S&M' - and it is pretty darn racy. The video starts off with pictures of Rihanna behind a wall of cellophane in front of a bunch of reporters who are writing less than complementary things about the young star. Obviously this part of the video is expressing some of Rihanna's frustration with the press.

Other parts of the video definitely take a wild turn. There are shots of Rihanna keeping some guy on a dog chain, with the guy acting very much like a canine. (The guy even pretends to take a leak on a nearby fire hydrant). Then there are shots of some guy who is tied up in a torture-like room, with Rihanna standing above him dressed in a white dominatrix costume, complete with a whip.

Of course, in an effort to be fair, Rihanna also shows pictures of herself tied up almost like a calf at a rodeo. The interesting thing about these pics of Rihanna is that she is wearing a yellow polka-dotted leotard and bright retro accessories while being tied up, which makes it look almost like some kind of perverted take on 80's pop culture.

Towards the end of the video, Rihanna is shown wearing Playboy Bunny ears in front of a wall full of newspaper headlines and then she provocatively eats a banana.

Overall this video is definitely risque and not something that young children should be allowed to watch, although undoubtedly, many teenage boys will become obsessed with it. As one mother said after watching the video, "I am disappointed that Rihanna made such a trashy video since my two pre-teen girls really look up to her. I will definitely have to put my foot down about letting them watch this video." Good advice if you have little girls who idolize Rihanna, since this video is definitely made for mature audiences.

What do you think? Should artists like Rihanna keep their younger fans in mind when they make music and videos, or is it the responsibility of the parents to make sure they keep inappropriate materials out of their children's hands? Would you allow your children to watch sexually explicit images like those in Rihanna's new video?
