Rimmel Straight Brush Black Mascara Versus Wet N Wild Straight Brush Black Plumping Mascara

Karen Morris
With both products being within a .50-cent differential of the other, I decided to purchase both as they both offered that eternal promise of "Longer Lasting Staying Power" along with "Lengthens and Widens Lashes". As someone with very blonde eyelashes and very dark black hair, I chose black in both brands and set out to find out which was the best.

The brand Rimmel is a new cosmetic line imported in our great states via Britain. For a purchased price of $2.49 plus tax, it was a basic black bottle with no fancy labeling. As you women understand, I was excited to see if it really would lengthen my lashes and not smudge all around my eyes and most importantly, not clump on the brush. Ladies, this product is nothing short of wonderful! Of course, in order to achieve the lengthening affect, you must reapply and for me it was three applications total and the affect was remarkable. It looked like I had added falsies to help, but no; it was just a fantastic product! The brush never clumped nor did it ever clump on my eyelashes. The brush provided not only separated and lengthened, but was so precise that each and every bottom lash could be covered too! That is almost impossibility for me. I usually have to camouflage with black eye liner. The black color was rich like velvet and I was amazed at how effective and how easy it was to remove. Some simple Ponds Cold Cream and poof! All gone.

On the other side however, was the Wet n Wild Plumping Mascara also in black. With a cost of $1.99 on sale, I decided I would plump my eyelashes. If we do it to our lips why not our eyelashes, right? Ladies, this is a product that needs to be removed from the market, retooled and then perhaps reintroduced without the plumping problem. The brush was to short and mascara clumped up on it consistently. It went on my lashes very wet and clumpy and with the short brush missed most of my lashes and caused extreme smudging on both the top and bottom of the eye. It did not plump one bit. It did however; make one big mess of my eyes. Causing my lashes to clump together so badly that even my eyelash brush looked at me like, "Lady, you gotta be kiddin' me".

The Wet n Wild Mascara's brush needs worked on badly. Firstly, being to short and also it is way to wide. That was the source of the smudging above and beneath the eyes. As I applied the second recommended application, the clumping only got worse. It went from bad to worse. Never mind that it took the first coat almost 15 minutes to dry, adding on a second coat was akin to trying to use 7 year old paint you've had stored in your garage. Thick and clumpy, the second coat went on as a complete mess and there was not one big of "plumping" occurring. There were, however, plenty of tears with the entire product streaming into my eyes.

Removing the product practically requires lye soap. I used basic bar soap because cold cream wouldn't cut it. This is a very poor product and no matter the cost, this is no bargain either aesthetically or financially.

In my opinion, Rimmel has a product that the other companies should and will take notice of very soon. Available right now at your local Wal-Mart or Walgreen's near you. For $2.49, not on sale, it is a fantastic product that you will love and I believe, stay with permanently once you have had that first experience with the superior performance of this product!

  • Rimmel provides mascara in various types of colors and brush types.
  • You receive the same long lasting , non smudging wear from Rimmel as the expensive brands.
  • Wet n Wild provides different types of lengthners and colors for a very affordable price.
Rimmel has been around here in the states roughly two years and their products can compete with and possibly beat Clinique or Estee Lauder.

At first the mascara was really good, and then eventually i started realizing that without the mascara.. my eyelashes were looking thinner and thinner..

the mascara actually made alot of my eyelashes fall out, and made the remaining ones really thin.
