Rimmel Super Wear 10 Day Wear Topcoat Review

The Worst Topcoat Ever Invented

Ever wish there was a way to keep your nail polish from chipping, scratching and peeling off just days after you've painted them? That's what top coats are for. I didn't learn about top coat nail polish until I stepped into a nail salon for the first time. The top coats are clear and are suppose to be worn over colored nail polish once it's dried. The point of this is to lock in the color and prevent it from getting chipped, scratched and peeled, that way you don't have to redo your nails as often. It also gives your nails that shiny, polished look.

There are many top coats out there but one in particular caught my attention, and that's Rimmel's Super wear 10 day wear top coat. This top coat claims to last up to well, 10 days. I was excited to try this product out and it only costs me a few bucks at Walgreens. I immediately put the product to the test when I got home. The first nail polish I tried it on with was one of Rimmel's own nail polish. I was very disappointed because it started peeling as soon as I got out of the shower, and yes my nails were dry long before then. In fact it was peeling so badly that I was able to peel off my nail polish. I almost didn't even need a nail polish remover. I assumed it had to do more with the nail polish quality and not the top coat even if they were the same brand so I tested it out on other brands.

I tried Rimmel's top coat with three other nail polishes from three other brands. The next one I tried it with was Maybelline's Express Finish nail polish. This time it lasted slightly longer but probably only because I showered before I did my nails and not after. It didn't last anywhere close to 10 days. My nail polish started peeling and chipping around the second day. Another failed attempt.

The third nail polish I tested Rimmel's top coat with was L'oreal's. I figured that maybe a better brand of nail polish would work but this was a failure too. Although L'oreal's nail polish with Rimmel's top coat lasted longer than the first two only lasted for about five before my nails started chipping and peeling.

The last nail polish I used Rimmel's top coat with was Sally Hansen's Hard as Nails Xtreme wear. I thought to myself that this top coat has to work with this nail polish, there's no way it wouldn't. I was wrong. It wasn't a complete failure though, at least I didn't think so. My nail polish lasted up to seven days this time. A week is pretty good but it's not 10 days. I doubt the long wear had anything to do with the top coat though.

My opinion of Rimmel's Super wear 10 day wear top coat is that it's all talk and doesn't follow through. This top coat doesn't work with it's own brand of nail polish nor does it work with the better brands of nail polish, not even the extreme wear nail polishes. If it hasn't worked after four tries with four different brands then I highly doubt that it would do what it claims, and that's last up to 10 days. Don't waste your money on this product it's basically useless.
