Rimmel Sweet Stuff Lipstick in Bite - Product Review

Some Serious Problems

Layla A.
When I tried my first Rimmel lipstick, I really hated it at first. After having used it for awhile, I actually really like it and think it is at least slightly more unique than most lipsticks on the market. However, there are some things about it that make it feel like a lip gloss I would have purchased at age 8.

SCENT

Being an avid lip gloss collector when I was under the age of 10, I know what artificial strawberry smells like. This is it. It is not so much the scent that bothers me, it is light and not too overdone. What really gets me is that it cheapens it a lot! It makes me feel like I am 9, slathering on a clear but heavily scented lip gloss.

COLOR

Bite (110) is a light-to-medium toned pink with rainbow sparkle. Again, the color description screams little girl. And in some ways, it is. However, when pulled off correctly, this color can be good on a wide range of skin tones. It goes on very light on my lips, but not scary light. I really like this color as it compliments fair skin very nicely.

FORMULA

This is where it really got me. Applying it, I thought there was something wrong with it at first. It felt not watery, but very slick. More slick than a lot of glosses I own. Looking in the mirror, it looked like I had dabbed on a gloss over it, too. This really feels like a gloss, but has the opacity and coverage of a lipstick. A little weird if you are not used to it, but a very cool concept once you adjust. The glitter sometimes feels gritty and makes me itchy, a huge con.

FUNCTIONALITY

Since this lipstick is so glossy, it is kind of a two-in-one. This saves half the time, half the money, etc. I think this is a great winner in functionality because it is one tube you have to carry around- that's it.

PACKAGING

As most other Rimmel products, Bite is in a slim, black tube with the signature Rimmel logo in silver. It is a good lipstick tube that closes well, and has a nice turning system.

PRICE

Rimmel London Sweet Stuff Lipstick goes for around $6 online, because they have been discontinued. I have to say, I am a little relieved. While the idea of a lipstick and a gloss in one is really cool, the glitter and sparkly bits really did irritate and itch.

FINAL OPINIONS

While I don't hate it, I am rather glad that it has been discontinued. Love the concept, the color has grown on me, but I just can't get over the itching from the irritation on my lips. I really hope Rimmel can perfect this formula and make a new lipstick that doesn't have any gritty glitter. I am willing to try their other products, but hope they don't give me a rash. L
