Ring Around the Rosie at the View?

Swapping Rosie for Roseanne

Angela Russell
Is one Rosie better than another? Roseanne Barr seems to be the top contender to fill the unpopular shoes of Rosie O'Donnell on ABC's The View. Roseanne's spokesperson has told reporters that she has not yet been approached.

Roseanne never gave a direct answer when questioned about the position last week on Larry King Live. Several names have been dropped as possible replacements for O'Donnell who will be leaving the show in June. Joan Rivers, Whoopi Goldberg, Kathie Lee Gifford and even Connie Chung have all been mentioned.

The open position is considered the number one seat on the show. This requires a star who is strong, with an ability to keep the discussion on track. Someone who speaks their mind and is funny would be the optimal choice for this seat.

Rosie O'Donnell announced last week that she will be leaving the show only after one year because ABC officials and she were unable to agree on a new contract deal. Insiders have reported that she wanted more control over the show and decided to turn tale when she wasn't allowed to have it. O'Donnell replaced Merideth Vieira, who is now an anchor on NBC's Today show. Starr Jones, has not been replaced since she left the show last year.

Rumors have flown that ABC refused to renew Rosie's contract due to many factors including her recent feud with Donald Trump and crude remarks made to Sheryl Crow. These rumors cannot be either confirmed or denied at this time.

Roseanne Barr told Larry King that she was not looking to replace Rosie, but that she would love to have the money. Barr who has her own blog site, http://www.roseanneworld.com/blog/ makes no mention of the show at all in her recent blogs. She currently has her own radio show which can be followed in her blog.

Insiders have told reporters that regardless of who fills the position it seems that she show is going downhill. With many of the key seats vacated the show may lose face value and end up in cancellation. Reports that Barbara Walters is responsible for Rosie's departure are neither confirmed nor denied, however New York Post reporter Cindy Adams reported that the appearance of the two together to present the Matrix Award was purely contractual.

Some say Rosie's actions at this award ceremony cost the comedian her job.

Yes one Rosie is better than the other...in this case I would root for Barr to get a deal

Anyone that replaces Rosie O'Donnell will be an improvement. But Barr will be a great additon. At least she knows when to shut her mouth. O'Donnell alienated many people with her over-the-top personal opinions.
