RIP World Star Hip Hop, Black People Have to Look Elsewhere on the Internet for Laughs

Christopher
World Star Hip Hop was the worst hip-hop web site ever. A weird cross between YouTube and MySpace, the site has been shut down. Some say that Homeland Security shut down the site for copyright infringement, which is not that far fetched but then again plenty of copyright infringement continues to go on at YouTube and other video sharing sites like Daily Motion. They continue to maintain a presence on Twitter, asserting that they be back, but the fact that they no longer exist on cyberspace is amusing.

The site was notorious for aggregating music videos from relatively unknown hip-hop artists and displaying them in one place. The comment section for those videos was also entertaining, and they would often have videos of news stories from local news channels showing what happened in the ghetto somewhere, as well as amateur videos of fights out on the street or in a club, and concert footage. From a technical perspective, the awful design of the site and the lack of sophistication made it a running joke from the very start.

There were other sites as well, World Star Freaks and World Star Candy; the former which allowed you to meet women that were similar to those that submitted adult videos of themselves on the later. Those sties are still up, but due to the fact that World Star Hip Hop itself hosted the content, you cannot get past the front page of either site. 50 Cent is taking credit for shutting down the site, but then again, 50 Cent takes credit for a lot of things in hip-hop. There are plenty of other sites to keep up with hip-hop on the Internet, including YouTube itself, but none as ignorant and blatantly disrespectful, both to the genre, and the intelligence of the listeners, as World Star Hip Hop. Other sites have a slick, well designed presentation and assume that the average viewer knows something about rap.

Do black people think shutting down World Star Hip Hop will end ignoance in the black communiy Worll Star d did not put guns to recordings heads and make them diss other recording stars or discuss their personal affairs with the world. World Star Hip Hop didn't force people to send those clips of black people engaged in ignorant behavior (like that lil boy flipping out over ramen noodles)
Point I'm tryn to make is when are black people going to star taking resposibilty and quit pointing the finger and stop investing their time and money into things that encourage coonery and reinforce the slave mentality.
It's all about supply and demand. Media outlest like world star can not exist if people do not support them.
I think it's only a matter of time before anoter site like that surfaces.

I never knew about the site, but it sounds like a classic case of "Blackploitation", which, in that case, its a good thing that it was shut down. And if you ask me, YouTube is just as bad, and does very much of the same things you used to describe that site, but again, and as you mentioned, its sooo many sites doing it. I absolutely HATE those kind of sites, but the thing that really pisses me off, is that, we (Blacks) keep those sites alive & going because we're so ignorant that we actually glorify and idolize them and the negative, almost-inhumane manner in which they portray us.

That's not cool for them to take it down.

BTW, the fountain lady video is pretty funny. You should watch it, if you have spare time of course.
