Ripley's Believe it or Not, Beyond the Grave: A Book Review

Trying to Get Your Child to Read More? This Book Might Be Just the Trick

If you have child that you need to encourage to read, then what better way than one of the Ripley's Believe it or Not books. Adapted for children rather than adults, the Beyond the Grave serves up a delicious offering of oddities about burial, how people honor their loved ones, ghostly history, last wills and lots of interesting historical facts. Full of photos and large easy to read print, this 62 page book will keep your child or teen intrigued for hours.

Some of the short offerings are interesting facts about tombstones, Egyptian mummies and how different civilizations dispose of their dead. The book covers those subjects in an illustrated and historical way that young readers can understand and adults are not revolted by. One of the more fascinating sections deals with predictions and covers the Titanic, presidential assassinations and the Hope diamond.

This book is often offered through the Scholastic Books program at school but it can be found on-line as well. The price for a new book is in the $8 range but a pre-read book, still in pristine condition, can be priced as low as a few dollars. One favorite on-line book store is Dusty Jackets and currently has the Beyond the Grave book along with many other pre-read and loved books.

Once your child reads one of the Ripley series of books they will keep on asking for more books to read. That will be the spark that will ignite a fire to get a child that dislikes to read into an avid reader.
