Rising Sun of Gold: A Poem for Jack Welch and General Electric

William Clunie
Once upon a once again the silly turn of history
that pirouettes with jackanapes and lies with dogs like Easy Kate
at Cuntry Faire has done it to us once again:

The alchemy of greed, the glowing fasces turned to glist'ring gold
has brightly lit the pretty lights of Tokyo --

This is your legacy, Croesus, the brilliant burning faces
of the littlest among us, who have not yet learned a trifle

of your shiny, shameful ways.
