Risk Identification

Risk identification starts at the beginning of the project and continues though the project until the project is complete. We can identify these project risks by categorizing them into two categories; internal and external risks. (Pcubed, 2006) You an also categorize risks thought a "risk check-list" such as "Resources," "Vendor," "Customer," and "Technology." "They can also be categorized by phase of life cycle, such as "Requirements," "Design," "Coding," and "Testing."

Potential threats to project x can include;

1.Suppliers not delivering the necessary products on time to complete the project. (External)

2.Components such as the ABMs, the AMCC and SKYEYE not working in conjunction together as designed. (Internal)

3.Battery failure, or charge from solar failure. (Internal)

4.Routine checks or maintenance to be preformed more than projected.

5.Proper on-going training of military personal. (External)

6.Problems with the housing unit (MHU) and the tractor trailer. (Internal)

As we have learned before, with potential threats, becomes potential opportunities. These can include;

1.Recognition of SKYEYE, a patented radar technology.

2.Additional contracts with the Department of Defense.

3.Research Grant opportunities.

4.Potential profit to the stake holders.

5.An opportunity to defend your country.

6.Press recognition

JAD is a most useful way to identify risks. JAD, Joint Application Design or Joint Application Development, is designed to bring all the stake holders together to discuss the stakeholders concerns over the project. This session may take several days however; the idea is to bring decision makers together to identify potential risks. The objective of the meeting is to end in a consensus decision.
