If you hear the words '˜Black, or African American Country Singer', the only one that comes to my mind is Charlie Pride.
As a minority I've always been somewhat reluctant to mention my love of country music to my own kinship. However, country music is the main genre of music that I listen to while driving. I find it to be calming, I love the stories, which I can truly relate to, they bring back childhood memories and good feelings of family and good clean country living!
Thank goodness for Rissi Palmer an attractive and talented African American musician, songwriter and Country Music Singer! I only discovered her last year in 2007, with her hit '˜Country Girl' which peaked at #54 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs charts, but this year, 2008 she has grown by leaps and bounds in her navigation towards stardom. Her voice is incredible and she has been featured on shows such as Oprah and Friends, and has appeared in magazines like The Wall Street Journal, People, Newseek, Rolling Stone, Parade, Ebony, Billboard, and Country Weekly. She has also received top rankings on MySpace and iTunes.
Rissi Palmer also established herself a songwriter in Nashville. Her most recent release is, "Hold On To Me," which she co-wrote with Shaye Smith and Ed Hill. She's also done a beautiful rendition of American Idol's Jordin Sparks, and Chris Brown's hit song, "No Air"
You can hear these hits on her website at www.rissipalmer.com.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Rissi moved with her family to St. Louis, Missouri at age of 12. Her mother, whom sadly, she lost at the very young age of 7, heavily influenced her love of music. As a child, she sang in her church choir, and on a local kids television show called Team 11. Team 11, was an entertainment troupe that played for audiences including Former President Bill Clinton.
At age 16, she performed at the Arkansas State Fair.
At 20, Rissi signed a publishing deal with Song Planet in Nashville, where she went on to write with some of the city's best Lyricists.
At present, Rissi is signed with the 1720 Entertainment label and is touring the country and playing for live audiences, where she enjoys being able to interact with people.
