Rita's is a place that people in my area flock in the summer. It is a twist to traditional ice cream shoppes. It is famous for it's Italian ices and creamy custards.Rita's is the only place I go when I need a cool treat to beat the summer heat.

Rita's was founded in 1984 by Bob Tumolo and his mother, Elizabeth in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. They created the perfect recipe for Italian ice and then it took off from there. Today Rita's is the largest chain of Italian ice store with 400 stores and growth plans for 1,500 more by 2010. Most likely a Rita's is coming to your town or at least near by.

If you love ice cream then you will love Rita's. Rita's original treat the Italian ice comes in 30 Rita flavors with a different flavor each day. One day may be pina colda and the next pineapple delight. Along with the great Italian ice Rita's also have a fabulous custard. Creamy and rich it comes in vanilla and chocolate.

If you can't decide between Italian ice and custard then why not have them both. Rita's specialty the Gelati is a combination of Italian ice and custard. There are endless combinations when you get to choose from the 30 flavors of Italian ice to mix with custard. The Gelati is special because you pick your favorite Rita ice and top it with your favorite custard. Mine happens to be orange ice with vanilla custard, it taste just like a dreamcicle. It is a treat to savor and enjoy.

If you are on the run and don't have time to leisurely enjoy a little gelati then try you taste buds at the Misto. Just like a gelati it is the combination of Italian ice and custard only this treat id blended for a quick shake you can enjoy on the run. My favorite Misto just happens to be mint ice with chocolate custard. You can also take Rita's home with their quart and pint size containers.

One of the great part of Rita's is that old fashion feel. No drive-thru's here. You get to order at a walk up window, making life slow down for just a little bit. The bright colors call me every time I pass by, which is a good thing that the Italian ice is fat free. Rita's is also pretty easy on the wallet. They even have a Rita's card that you can have punched every time you visit to receive a free treat after every few visits. Rita's has also gone to the computer age with a points card. You can now redeem points with every visit to add to your points card. You can even check the amount of points on your card on-line.

Rita's is a fun place to stop by in the summer time for a tasty little treat or take the kids for a special treat on a hot summer night. The only problem with Rita's is that is closed in my area during the winter months. So go check out a Rita's and beat the heat with their cool treats.
