River of Seasons

Jacob Coburn
The clouds part, the sun does rise

From behind the cloud tops, it makes its reprise

And with that new warmth

Winter must summarize

The season of cold has come to a close

The end of white beauty, of days when it snows

Why time made it like this

Nobody knows

But as the ice melts, cascading valiant peaks

Into the fastest route to sea is what it all seeks

Falling from all memory

The ice and snow leaks

The River's waters flow, great rains do doth pour

Feeding ever greater this snake of the shore

Spring's fluid kiss

Knowing right what's in store

Then the sun rises higher, spreading rays of light, far

Bringing morning hope, and raising the bar

From this sudden rush

The river does scar

The ever shrinking snow pack, back on the mountain ridge

Is no longer cool, no longer like a fridge

Now that the source is gone

The river runs like cold porridge

True, the frequent Summer storms, their rains fill the hole

But the lightning's fires, our river plays a role

To lend its nonflammable waters

Just makes life more droll.

Then the Earth tilts some, seasons change in grandeur

The winds shift positions, making men unsure

But the river loves it

This coming of colorful decor

Slowly the trees drift off into sleep, their energy worn

By wind, their leaves become shattered and torn

Many awesome colors

The river they now adorn

The nippiness has come, the wind does now bite

Quicker now you see, and out like a light

The Sun gives way

To the cold, chilly night

Just as the temperatures dip, and the waters do freeze

The river runs deep between swamps and seas

Before winter's chill

It glides in with ease

But who wonders back, to the mountain of start

Who's replacing these waters, many miles apart?

The answer is easy

You know in your heart

The winter's many snows, feed the mountain, and then

More and more than there has ever been

Until next thaw

When it starts all over again.
