Road Conditions in North Dakota: No Travel Advised

Travel Advisories for Friday, November 7 in North Dakota

The North Dakota Department of Transportation website has been having technical difficulties this morning as motorists are overloading the server checking the road reports. I will try to add updates as I am able to access them.

Road Conditions in North Dakota: 9:30 a.m., Friday, November 7

With much of North Dakota under a foot or more of snow, the North Dakota Department of Transportation has closed the interstate highway (I-94) from New Salem to the Montana border.

Highway 2 from Devils Lake to Minot is closed, as is Highway 83 from Minot to Bismarck. There is no travel advised on Highway 52 between Fessenden and Minot. There are many highways in the southwest corner of North Dakota that are closed or have issued a 'no travel advised' warning.

The highways in the eastern part of North Dakota are covered in slush or are wet, including around Fargo, West Fargo, Grand Forks, Wahpeton, and Grafton.

Around Devils Lake, Bottineau, and down into the Carrington and New Rockford area, the highways are marked as snow covered.

The rest of North Dakota's highways are marked yellow as they have continuous ice or compacted snow.

Although the snowfall and wind have made visibility poor in much of the state, it is the ice underneath the snow that is making travel dangerous. In central North Dakota, we received at least an inch of rain, if not two, which then turned into sleet and made the roadways very slippery.

UPDATED - Road Conditions in North Dakota: 10:20 a.m., Friday, November 7

Interstate 94 from New Salem to the Montana border is now open, but road reports are showing they are still ice covered or compacted with snow.

Highway 52 from Fessenden to Minot is now open as well, but again, drive carefully as the highway is ice and/or snow covered.

Highways in the northwest corner of North Dakota are reported as in good condition.

Local Road Conditions - Harvey, North Dakota

According to the local radio station and the Harvey City offices, Harvey received 8 or 9 inches of snow yesterday and last night. There is no travel advised within the city of Harvey as Harvey City workers strive to clear the roads. Harvey City Post Office announced there was no mail delivery to their office this morning.

I could not get my door open this morning due to a snow drift approximately 1.5 feet deep blocking the way. Many people are getting stuck this morning on their way to work. The weatherman at the local radio station asked people to please stay home today.

So sorry about the early blizzard, but this is a great service to Montana's residents and travelers!

Stay warm and hope the blizzardy conditions stop soon! I emailed a friend in SD earlier today to check in with her... hope you all stay safe!

I'm sitting here with the windows up, the doors to the screen porch open, and this reads like science fiction. Take care!

Oh wow. I am heading up to Montana by train this weekend. I can hope for snow... but wow. That's like my hopes for snow from last two years all coming true at once. Drive safe.

I saw this on the news this morning - wow! I haven't seen anything like that since I lived in Rochester NY!

We may actually be seeing a bit of snow ourselves but nothing like this, wow!
