Road Rage: Coping with Hostile Drivers

Trinity
Hostile drivers have been something that people have been dealing with since the first automobile was put on the market. People that insist on driving in a hostile manner, more commonly known as road rage, are far more likely to cause automobile accidents than drivers that are more respectful of the rules regarding driving.

When it comes to driving there are two different types of rules that driver's need to remember at all times. First there are the rules of driving in general and the other is that of just common sense being needed at all times. When people neglect these two types of rules is when we encounter road rage. Thankfully most countries take this type of offence very seriously and it can result in serious penalties to offenders.

There are a lot of things that can be considered as road rage when it comes to driving. For example; people that use the horn or high beams to excess, people that make sudden speed increases, and zig zagging in and out of traffic are just a few of the very common ones that people see.

There are laws that define road rage or aggressive driving differently, but they are both punishable. Road rage has severe consequences to offenders when they are caught. This is often hard for police to do as they are not always around when the situation arises. Catching aggressive drivers has proven to be a challenge for law enforcement officers all over.

When they are caught by police while they are annoying other drivers on the road, they are quite likely to have the license that they possess revoked for a specified period of time. Trying to understand why there are people that are like this on the roads continues to bewilder specialists.

There is a medical condition that some specialists believe could have a lot to do with people that have road rage. Intermittent Explosive Disorder or IED is what they think is causing people to drive like this. IED is known to cause people to have angry outbursts very quickly without any warning at all.

People with IED can start yelling and throwing stuff at anyone that may be in their path. This makes us all possible victims to people that have this condition. Other times a person with this condition can be set off by just the smallest thing as a trigger, making this a very dangerous thing especially if they are behind the wheel of a vehicle at the time.

These outbursts of anger are very severe and are often not what is warranted by the trigger that causes them. Other specialists do not believe that IED is a medical condition and it is just an excuse that people use to get out of the situation that they have created.

There are other times that a person experiences road rages just by the pure irritation that they feel from something that has occurred while they are driving through traffic, or in a traffic jam. This is not an excuse for the road rage that many people go through and should not be used in such a way.

By trying to avoid drivers that come into your view that are behaving in an overly aggressive manner is one of the most important things that you can do to ensure your safety. Make sure that you drive in a safe and careful manner so as not to upset others that are on the road is another important thing that you can do to help avoid becoming a victim of road rage. This means using your lights properly and not tailgating.
