1.) The price was right. At $288.00 a week it is less expensive than most campgrounds that are similar. 2.) It would have been nice if it were five minutes from Walton Rocks Beach but we found out that it is more like 25 minutes away. Walton Rocks Beach is one of two beautiful dog beaches on what is called the Treasure Coast of Florida. Farther down the term used is the Gold Coast. 3.) We loved how flexible the amount of time we could stay is. I cannot remember any campground being so accommodating. We paid for a week but they blocked off our site for three weeks in case we wanted to stay that long. If for some reason we had to leave earlier, we could get a refund.
I checked in with really nice people. We found our site which has a tree, a patio, and a table. The grounds are well maintained but the sites are close together with just the table as a division. One negative is that trash pickup is only two times a week but we can always go to the dumpster!
Road Runner has about 450 full-hook up sites so it is huge. You can find fully furnished villas with fully equipped kitchens if you want to stay in the area but don't have an RV. There is a huge grocery store with RV parts, two recreation rooms with games, a solar heated pool, a lending library, a petanque court, a tennis court, a shuffle board court, a real 3-hole golf course, horseshoe area, and a catch-and-release fish pond. We have wi-fi at our site and great cable television.
The only negative for some is that there is a slight religious component which includes a large cross by the pond and since it is Christmas time it is lit up at night.
There are so many activities here that we could be busy all day. An example is Wednesday: choir practice, shuffleboard, bridge lessons, crafts, chair exercise, line dancing, bingo, and a fishing club. On another day you would have Ladies Bible Study, basic computer, chair exercise, water exercise, and bingo.
There are no playgrounds at all. I saw one boy here and I would place a bet that he is a grandchild. I would definitely stay at Road Runner again and after looking at three campgrounds that are near a different dog beach we have decided to stay here.
Other information
Stop in Alberto's Pizza & Grill at 4272 NE Ocean Boulevard in Jensen Beach, FL. The food was great (subs/calzone) and you can eat outside so if you have a pet you are all set. The only thing I didn't like was that I had to wipe the table myself. Ok I guess I should have asked to have the table wiped.
You will read about the major dog beach on the east coast of Florida. This is Jupiter Beach and although it doesn't go right to the pier like you might read, it is a 2-mile beach. There is parking everywhere. You will also read that there are no amenities but that isn't quite true. There are clean restrooms at the parking lots. I do not like this beach as much as I like Walton Rocks because it is more crowded - if you have a very sociable dog he or she will be in heaven! My little one was traumatized by two dogs whose owner thought it was perfectly fine to not have collars on them. That is collars, not leashes! They didn't have leashes either. I saw a dead bird and dead fish on the beach and flying fish which my husband was sure was being chased by a shark he saw - no kidding.
From there we went to a campground - Juno Ocean Walk (Just to see campgrounds near Juniper.), which was over $500 a week and West Jupiter Campground which was $320.00 a week. On our way back we stopped at Treasure Cove Park which I really liked and was less than Road Runner but ½ hour to the Jupiter Dog Beach so here we are and I am just as happy staying here.
Stop at Al's Family Farms at the corner of Angle Road and Kings Highway for honey, boiled peanuts, delicious orange juice, and cute souvenirs. They offer tours of their orange juice factory.
Finally as of today we also took out from China Wok located at 1853 N. U.S. 1 Highway in Fort Pierce. This is primary a take-out but there are 5 table. The restaurant is very clean and the food was made quickly. Everything we had was very good, plentiful, and priced right.
