Roadtrip Tips: My Trip to Arlington, TX

Jon Sugi
This article is basically a true life story written in article form. But the idea is that I am going on a road trip with some friend to visit some friends in Texas and visit Six Flags in Arlington. So I hope I can drop some tips for people planning to either visit Texas or are just planning to go on a vacation.

Price out the trip. I cannot stress how important this is for any vacation. Look at food expenses, tickets, gas, movies, drinks, entertainment, and anything else you might want to do during the trip. Now add either $25 or $50 dollars to your original estimate. This is something my family does just for safety measures. Sometimes we don't need the money, sometimes we do. It will not hurt if you are prepared for anything. If you don't need the money you have some extra cash to use, if you need it then you will be happy you were prepared. But be aware of the cost.

Set a date. I once planned on going to some theme park. I really cannot remember where or when. And that is the main problem. I had the idea and desire to go, but I didn't set a date or make any other plans other than wishful thinking. Look at the calendar and write down the time and cost on the date you want to travel. Now you have a goal to look towards. Some people, like myself, need to look at what the future plans are. I can now look and see that in three weeks for about two hundred dollars I will be going to Texas for a week. Some people don't need to write down what their plans are, so if thats you then ignore this paragraph.

Check your vehicle. This is a very critical part of any road trip. I am changing my oil and antifreeze three weeks before the trip. I'm going to have my tires checked and make sure the AC will work fine for the trip. I want to be 100% positive my vehicle will run smoothly and seamlessly. This is not a very expensive part of the trip, and plus it will last past the trip for vehicle maintenance.

Plan the trip. I cannot say how much wasted time I have let slip through my fingers. Make plans for the trip. Don't plan everything to the second. And don't be extremely meticulous about every possible action, from eating to using the restroom. Plan in general time frames and time blocks. The only thing I am going to be planning very tight will the my visit to the theme park. I know I can't ride everything, so I am setting up a game plan for attractions I want to ride and what I will skip. During my other days I have a general idea of what I want to do. But I am still open that if plans were to change I can adapt.

Have fun. This is the entire reason for the road trip. There have been vacations where I have been so focused on riding rides and seeing sights that I forget the reason I was taking a vacation. So relax, eat well and have a blast.
