Roan Mountain State Park in Roan Mountain, Tennessee

Tennessee's Roan Mountain State Park rests at the base of Roan Mountain itself and includes 2000 acres of trails, camping facilities and wild land. Aside from being a year round destination for nature lovers, the park is also host to the very popular Roan Mountain Rhododendron Festival held every June. Here is a summary of what keeps visitors returning to Roan Mountain State Park year after year.

Roan Mountain Rhododendron Festival

Help once a year every late June, Roan Mountain State Park becomes host to visitors from all over the country flocking to a festival held in recognition of the short lived but stunning peak of Roan Mountain's rhododendron garden. Both the garden and the festival are covered in full by article located here on Associated Content that you might check out for full information. Festivities include a live music, tasty festival food and a wide variety of vendor booths. Other annual events at the park include a Spring Naturalist Rally and Kids Trout Tournament in May, a Fall Naturalist Rally in September and a traditional Christmas event in November.

Roan Mountain State Park Camping

Tennessee's 2000 acre Roan Mountain State Park has more than ample camping facilities. There are 30 fully furnished cabins that are available any time of the year and come with just about everything that you should need. Sorry, no dogs aloud

As for campsites, the park is equipped with 20 tent sites and 87 RV electric and water hook ups. The campsites are available year round, but water hookups are shut off in colder months. This is a particularly hot spot for visitors making a base camp for the rhododendron festival.

Roan Mountain Trails and Recreation

Roan Mountain State Park has a nice network of short trails that range from very easy to fairly strenuous and cover a number of different habitats and elevations. There are nature trails with accompanying brochures that invite visitors to learn more about the surrounding nature, as well cultural and historical routes to learn more about the Roan Mountain region. If you are looking for more of a work out, there's a couple short but tough hiking trails that should do the trick as well as two other trails that are meant to challenge mountain bikers.

Roan Mountain State Park is located at 1015 Highway 143 in Roan Mountain, Tennessee. The park office can be reached during office hours of 8:30am-4:00pm at (800)250-8620.
