1920s Wedding Attire
While locating a vintage 1920s wedding gown might be difficult or expensive, brides can choose glamorous gowns reminiscent of the decade, such as this V-neck Vera Wang gown from David's Bridal which boasts hand appliquéd lace. An art deco inspired silk gown with a dropped waist would also be perfect for this theme. Lindsay Fleming has an "All That Jazz" collection which features this flapper-inspired gown. Instead of a traditional veil, consider a beaded headpiece and wear your hair in an updo based around finger waves. The focal point of the bride's makeup should be a dramatic red lip and neutral eyes. A beautiful bouquet of deep red roses will help the lip color pop. Accessorize further with pearl earrings, long strands of pearl necklaces, and t-strap pumps. Unique Vintage offers a variety of flapper dresses that could be worn by bridesmaids. However, if those hemlines are too short, bridesmaids could wear gowns in a slip dress style or that have a plunging V-neck in burgundy. Bridesmaids can also wear headpieces or beaded combs in their hair and carry bouquets of white calla lilies. The groom and groomsmen could wear pinstriped tuxedos or full-on "zoot suit" styled clothing. If pinstripes aren't your cup of tea, have the men wear tuxedos with long tails and top hats.
1920s Wedding Reception Ideas
When choosing your wedding decorations, draw inspiration from the stylish, ornamental art deco aspect of the decade. Set the tables with elegant black linens and use clear or crystal stemware and silver plates. Alternatively, white linens could be used with black plates and napkins. Tables could be decorated with silver and crystal candelabras holding cream colored pillar candles and arrangements of calla lilies and feathers set in silver vases. For a speakeasy feel, enlist the help of friends to dress as classy cigarette girls to carry around cigars or hand out favors. Make sure your band or dj plays plenty of jazz and swing music.
1920s Wedding Favors
When selecting wedding favors for a Roaring Twenties wedding, consider items such as silver cigarette lighters or miniature flasks, which can be personalized through some favor supply stores. White miniature pillow box styled favor boxes can be filled with edible treats, such as chocolates or Jordan almonds. Give these favors a touch of the 1920s by fastening them with a black ribbon. A craft feather and crystal can be glued to the ribbon for flair.
