Rob and Big: The Best Show on MTV

Move over, Oscar and Felix; this is the ultimate odd couple.

I can honestly say that no show on television today makes me laugh more than MTV's Rob and Big. I will try my best to explain the show without laughing, but I'm sure it's pretty darn impossible. Rob and Big are just two funny individuals that have no place as caretakers for a miniature horse. Trust me, I'll explain.

We start with Rob Dyrdek. This skinny kid from a little town in Ohio probably has more money than he can count thanks to his skateboarding skills. He is a professional skater that turned pro at age 15 because of his amazing street skateboarding technique. After turning pro, Rob acquired sponsorship from DC clothing and DC shoes. In 2003 He started to get attention for his street skills from the wrong people, i.e. the mall cops, so he had to hire a bodyguard.

This is where Christopher "Big Black" Boykin comes in. He stands 6'6" and 375 pounds of agile, dark and dangerous human machine. After growing up in a humble Mississippi town, he joined the Navy as a chef. But later on in life he decided to use his massiveness to make money as a bodyguard and a bouncer. In 2003 he got a job working for Rob Dyrdek and they have been inseparable ever since.

Ever meet two people that when separated seem like serious beings but when together they can't stop making you laugh? That's who Rob and Big are. You can't stop laughing at a 5'8" skater boy living with a 6'6" bodyguard that on the inside are children at heart. Children at heart with money that will take any idea and stretch it beyond belief.

Take for instance this season's episode with the time machine. Rob once bought a time machine off of the internet long before Big was his friend. After discovering it in a dusty box, Rob puts this time machine on Big's head and can't get it to work. So he decides to call the original owner who refuses to meet the couple and believes that they are aliens. For real. You'd think the episode would stop there, but not for Rob and Big.

They scour the internet and find a "time traveler" in Canada and fly out to meet him in hopes that he could fix their broken machine. Big really wants to go back to the 70s so he dresses appropriately.

No, this is not scripted. Neither was the family reunion with in Big's Mississippi town where Rob gets to experience true, southern black roots cooking and sleeping in a Barney-themed room. The experience only gets more interesting when Rob meets Big's uncle Jerry, a very eccentric and touchy-feely kinda guy.

And I'm not even going to delve into how Rob decided that raising a miniature horse would be easy, not to mention training a bulldog to be a skateboarder.

Maybe MTV's Rob and Big can't be explained in words, but I can tell you one thing that's obvious from the show: you learn to appreciate their endearing friendship. These guys simply care about each other as much as two men could without being called "homos" by their peers. Rob and Big are fun, funny and make you realize that life is truly an adventure. But I could do without seeing Big in a G-string again.
