Robert Jordan- Best Selling Author of the Wheel of Time - Dies Age 58

James Oliver Rigney Jr, the well known author of the long running fantasy series The Wheel of Time, and a man far better known to readers as Robert Jordan, died on 16th September 2007 at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Jordan had been diagnosed with Cardia Amyloidosis in March of 2006, and he vowed to beat the odds. Despite his illness he continued to attend conventions, and work on his writing. At the time of his death he was in the process of writing the twelfth and final book in the Wheel of Time novel, A Memory of Light, but the book was not slated for release until 2009. The disease that claimed Jordan's life is one that seldom allows the sufferer to live beyond two years after it is diagnosed, but, by all reports, Jordan was determined to continue his work and not allow his health to get the better of him.

There is already hope that the final book will be completed based on the authors notes, but just what will happen with the book is as yet, uncertain.

The Wheel of Time series has been delighting fans since the 1990's and although some readers laughingly called it 'This is the series that has no end' there is no denying that Jordan had a core following that eagerly snatched up each new book. His first fantasy book, The Eye of the World, was released in 1990 and went on to sell millions of copies.

Jordan is survived by his wife Harriet McDougal Rigney

I had intended to write a bit of an obituary myself... but since it's already been done, I would just like to say thank you. He was an inspiration to readers and authors alike.
