Robert Pattinson Has Real Real Vampire Blood in His Genes
Twilight's Edward Cullen is Related to Dracula
The real Dracula, who was 15th century ruler Vlad III in what is now Transylvania, has a horrific legacy, including tales of torture and more. Better known as "Vlad The Impaler", he fought against the expansion of the Ottoman Empire into Romania, and cruelly punished his enemies.
Vlad was the inspiration behind Bram Stoker's classic "Dracula", which helped spawn a whole horror genre, and the legend of the vampire.
Examples of the tortures that he inflicted on the Turks, include nailing the turbans to the heads of one group, sent to order him to pay a tribute. A common death for his enemies was being impaled on long poles, which were then erected so that the victims were left on display.
His father was killed by being impaled, and Vlad later took revenge on those who did this, by forcing them as slaves to help rebuild an ancient fortress. The slaves worked until the clothes fell off their backs, and then worked naked. None survived, they either died during the construction, or were impaled.
Tracing the family links back to Vlad III was not an easy task, according to genealogist Anastasia Tyler, but finding a link with the "real" Dracula is the perfect accompaniment to the Twilight Saga.
Genealogy experts say that the links between Robert Pattinson and Vlad III most likely include the British Royal Family.
Robert, who is 24, is a distant cousin of Princes William and Harry, through their father Prince Charles, and his ancestors the Pickering family, who lived in Northern England in the 16th century.
With both royalty and vampires in his blood, this news can't do anything but help boost the career of this young actor even further.
In the Twilight Saga, Robert Pattinson plays the role of Edward Cullen, who is a lovesick vampire. The Twilight Saga films are based on the series of novels written by Stephanie Meyer.
With vampire tales blending horror with romance, the first two Twilight movies grossed over $1 billion at box offices worldwide. The third movie in the series "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse", opens on 1st July.
