Robert Plant to Tour This Summer, Album to Follow

12 North American Shows Are Billed as Robert Plant and the Band of Joy

Robert Plant, the legendary singer of Led Zeppelin fame and musical explorer plans to embark on a twelve city summer tour this summer before the release of a new album. The musicians are being billed as Robert Plant and the Band of Joy for the July tour and new album. It is Robert Plant's first album since Raising Sand with Alison Krauss.

The musicians involved on the project according to Robert Plant's website include singer Patty Griffin, Darrell Scott lending his talents on a host of instruments and vocals. The rhythm section consists of drummer Marco Giovino and Bryon House on bass; both musicians add vocals on the project. Guitarist Buddy Miller co-produces the album and adds his guitar work and vocals to the project.

Robert Plant and his band plan to make stops in Memphis, Little Rock, Tulsa, Albuquerque, Phoenix, Tuscan, Dallas, Houston, Austin, Mobile, Clearwater and Miami between July 13th and 31st. No release date has been confirmed on the new album; however the album will be released on Rounder Records. Rounder records are the same label Robert Plant and Alison Krauss released the multi Grammy Award winning Raising Sand on. More tour dates are expected to be announced later this summer along with a definitive release date on the new album.

No track list has been released for the new album or tracks to preview. However, the album does have some Nashville sessions players. Patty Griffin is well respected in the folk music community. One could speculate the project is continuing down a musical road started with Robert's collaboration with Alison Krauss. Real Rock News reports Plant "reportedly covers the traditional bluegrass track "Cindy" on the new album." Robert Plant is not following in the hard rock direction of John Paul Jones in Them Crooked Vultures, and his project is not getting hung up on snags like Jimmy Page. Unlike his Led Zeppelin peers Robert Plant is going the direction his own winds blow him.

Nice article. I wish I could see him when he comes to Dallas. Have always loved Robert Plant's music, with or without Led Zeppelin.
