Robert Plant Wins Q Award, Might Play Glastonbury in 2010

And You Can Just Hear the Led Zeppelin Reunion Rumors Starting Up

It is an amazing thing, the popularity of artists like Robert Plant, the world famous frontman of Led Zeppelin, who can utter a few words and watch everyone stop to pay attention. Although hints of a Led Zeppelin reunion were dispelled earlier this year, Robert Plant went on to win several 2009 Grammy Awards with bluegrass icon Alison Krauss. But it wasn't new Led Zeppelin news that had people tuned to what Robert Plant had to say outside the Q Awards this weekend in London. He might be playing the Glastonbury Festival next year.

"I've just been talking to Michael [Eavis]," the former Led Zeppelin singer told BBC 6 Music. "There's place for me there, but I have no idea who with."

So was it set, he was asked. "There is a chance yeah, but I don't know with who."

When it was suggested that he perform solo, Robert Plant simply laughed. He said, "Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm good at card tricks."

These few words no doubt have set off the Led Zeppelin reunion rumor mill to grinding once more. Such tidbits usually do. It does not take much; the Led Zeppelin faithful are ever hopeful.

While at the Q Awards, an annual British event honoring excellence in music sponsored by Q magazine, Plant picked up the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award. He followed last year's winner David Gilmour, the legendary guitarist for Pink Floyd, who was also nominated for a Grammy this past year. Other recent winners of the Outstanding Contribution/Lifetime Achievement Award have been Peter Gabriel, Duran Duran, and the Bee Gees.

There is little doubt the singer can put together an ensemble by the time Glastonbury rolls around. With nearly two dozen studio albums under his belt, ten with Led Zeppelin and 11 solo and in collaborations (The Honeydrippers, Jimmy Page, and Alison Krauss), he's performed and toured with some of the best musicians in the world. Who knows? Perhaps he can get Jimmy Page, last seen helping induct fellow Yardbirds guitarist Jeff Beck into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April, or John Paul Jones, who is currently working with Dave Grohl (Nirvana and Foo Fighters) and Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) on their side project, Them Crooked Vultures, to step in for a couple songs at the Festival. Regardless, given the history of the Led Zeppelin faithful and the ever-present Led Zeppelin reunion rumors, Robert Plant's words will no doubt set off a fresh flood of speculative, hopeful, and false rumors that the legendary band will once again reunite.

The 2010 Glastonbury Festival, the 40th incarnation, will be held the last weekend of June and is already sold out.

Led Zep - one of the truly great bands ever. Without Plant's voice we would never of heard of them.
