Robin Hood (2010) Cast and Director
Director Ridley Scott has collaborated with Russell Crowe once again, in 2010, to tell the new tale of how Robin Longstride, aka Robin Hood, became a legendary hero. Crowe worked with Scott in five previous films, the most popular collaborations were Gladiator (2000), Body of Lies (2008) and American Gangster (2007).
Robin Hood (2010) is an action-adventure that also stars Cate Blanchett (Marian Loxley), William Hurt (William Marshal, First Earl of Pembroke), Mark Addy (Friar Tuck), Oscar Isaac (King John), Max von Sydow (Sir Walter Loxley) and Mark Strong (Godfrey - Earl Marshal of England).
Robin Hood (2010) Review and Summary
Ridley Scott did a fabulous job depicting the majestic, beautiful landscape and life in late 12th century England. The new Robin Hood film reveals Robin as a master archer in King Richard's army but he returns to England after the King's death. Robin takes on the identity of the dead Sheriff of Nottingham to stop the new King John from taking their land. He meets Marian and they waste no time getting married. Godfrey is a vicious man that invades towns and steals from the poor.
There are many sword fights, unlike the classic tale of Robin stealing from the rich to feed the poor. Battles intensify as Robin sets out to stop Godfrey, King John and other barons. King John declares Robin an outlaw to prevent him from becoming a threat to the thrown. The movie ends where the classic legend begins.
The storyline is different from any you have seen before; with a stellar cast, great sword fights and romance. The new Robin Hood is more original, thrilling, and graphic than any other remake of the classic story.
Robin Hood (2010) Review - Negatives
Many viewers may be reminded of superhero movies like Gladiator (Russell Crowe) and Braveheart (Mel Gibson), but this version of Robin Hood is still quite unique. Making stories fresh can be a difficult feat. The hugely successful Avatar reminded me of Braveheart too. Also, like Avatar, this movie is a bit too long for my taste: 140 minutes.
While Robin Hood is a perfect role for Russell Crowe, his accent did waiver throughout the film. The movie felt like a history lesson at times. I give the new Robin Hood movie 3 out of 5 stars.
