Ms. Miller's credentials are impressive but do not actually include a history of culinary training. What Miller has to make up for her lack of culinary training is a master's degree in food and nutrition from New York University. Miller also has worked with some top name publications and organizations including Family Circle, Weight Watchers, Health Magazine, Cooking Light Magazine, and Shape. Not only does Miller appear on Food Network she has also appeared on shows such as The Today Show, The Early Show, The View, and CNN along with others. Mrs. Miller is also a busy mother of two making her the perfect person to tout the virtues of quick healthy meals.
Robin Miller Has used her training in nutrition along with her experience as a busy working mother to come up with several strategies that come together to make the Quick Fix philosophy. These strategies include "morphing", meal kits, a weekend prep day, and express meals, sides, desserts, and snacks. All this is done with nutrition in mind and surprisingly little reliance on large amounts of overly processed convenience items. Do not get me wrong Ms. Miller does use the help where she can find it in things like pre-chopped garlic, pre-shredded cheese and canned broths.
You may be wondering what exactly do these strategies involve and what exactly is this morphing thing all about? Morphing is the technique of using some of the same ingredients to make several very different meals. For instance a weekend meal of Sweet and Tangy Beef roast with roast vegetables morphs into Asian Beef Salad with Cashews and then a batch of Beef Empanadas. Sometimes a single sauce will appear in different incarnations such as a Tomato Ragout morphing into the sauce for Shrimp Fra Diavolo and then further morphing into Tomato Chutney to serve over pork chops. A meal kit can simply mean that while chopping veggies on prep day you prep them for another meal and store them or adding an extra box of pasta to the pot for later in the week while you make that night's pasta. It can also mean doing things like mixing the dry ingredients to a baked item a few days ahead while you have time. This saves you time on nights when you know you will be stretched for time. Items prepped ahead on prep day can be stored in bags and storage containers in the fridge and sometimes the freezer according to Miller.
