Last year Williams saved the day at the Technology, Entertainment, and Design (TED) conference in Monterey, CA, according to wired.com. (http://blog.wired.com/business/2008/02/robin-williams.html).

"You know your conference has hit the big time when Robin Williams steps up from the audience to fill the dead air during an embarrassing, show-stopping technical glitch," said writer Kim Zetter. "Williams was sitting in the row behind me at the panel discussion on new media."

For almost three decades, Williams has been one of Hollywood's most versatile actors, states moviehabit.com.

He is involved in numerous charities, like the Sclerodema Research Foundation who has "Cool Comedy" as one of their fundraisers featuring the entertainer.

In 2004 Williams joined a campaign to try and grant controversial comedian Lenny Bruce a posthumous pardon for obscenity charges, according to celebritywonder.com. That same year Williams' visit to troops in the Middle East showed him the power of celebrity.

"The six-day USO tour of Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Iraq left little time for one-on-one visits with soldiers," said writer Carla Meyer. "The tour included a long-scheduled show at the Baghdad airport just two days after Saddam Hussein was found."

That same year Williams had them rolling in the aisle when he turned a news conference to promote his film "The Final Cut" into a free-association comedy routine.

In 2003 he helped the Tenth Annual San Diego Triathlon Challenge raise a million dollars, stated movies.surfwax.com.

Comedian Jonathan Winters has shaped the face of improvisational comedy and has influenced comedy superstars such as Williams.
