The Problem
One of the first problems that Microsoft Windows users experience when migrating to Linux is that they can no longer use Roboform. Roboform is the software of choice for Windows users when it comes to password management with form filling capabilities. The software is so relied upon that many new Linux users often contemplate switching back to Windows just to be able to use Roboform. This is no longer necessary. There is an excellent alternative on the market, free of charge, called LastPass.
What Is LastPass?
LastPass is a password management utility that features many of the same qualities that Roboform users are looking for. It features the ability to manage and create passwords, store secure notes, manage separate identities, and fill web based forms with a single click of your mouse button. These are just a few of its many features and the more popular reasons why somebody would want to use Roboform for Linux.
Will It Work With My Computer?
The creators of LastPass were really smart when they developed their software. They made sure that their software would work on multiple operating systems and web browsers. LastPass is compatible with Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux based operating systems. There is a web browser plugin for Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, and Google Chrome users. For users that use other browsers like Opera, you can still use LastPass via their bookmarklets feature.
How Does LastPass Differ from Roboform?
While LastPass offers the same type of primary features that Roboform provides, there is a difference between the two. To begin, LastPass stores all of your passwords on their server. The advantage to this is that your passwords are accessible from any computer around the world and you don't have to worry about losing all of your passwords if your hard drive should crash. Finally, as already mentioned, LastPass is multi-platform and multi-browser compatible allowing a wider base of computer users to manage their passwords and web site accounts with ease.
What About Costs?
LastPass offers both a free version of their software and a premium version. Most users will find that the free version offers everything they are looking for. For those of you wishing to use LastPass with your mobile device or seeking priority customer care, you will want to consider the premium service which, as of this writing, is one dollar per month.
Now that you know that there is a free alternative to Roboform for Linux based operating systems, you have no reason to ever consider switching back to Windows. LastPass provides you with the same type of features that you are accustomed to, it works on multiple browsers and operating systems, and it's free of charge.
