Robotex has received a lot of funding from investors towards the project. The investments have allowed the company to already begin creating weapon-wielding robotic war machines. Apparently, the company has already created a two-foot tall motorized robot. The robot has the ability to travel ten miles per hour and spin around on "a dime". Probably one of the best things, like the Autocopter, the motorized robot can be controlled remotely. The scary news is that the robot can also use its weapons to blow a ten-inch hole through a steel door. This is made possible through the implementation of top-of-the-art weapons and deadly accuracy that allows the robot to be accurate up to 400 meters.
The company is claiming that they can create the weapon for under $50,000. One of the reasons that this is major news is because this is a lot cheaper than many of the current alternatives being made. The price tag is nearly six times cheaper than the alternatives that are already being tested over in Iraq. Military officials are always looking for ways to create new weapons that will be made of solid quality and not cost them a fortune. The sad reality is that a lot of the things that we make today are very expensive to make. Robotex may be on to something by offering such high technology for a really affordable price.
There really is no knowing if the military will be interested in these devices or if they will ever be used in actual war settings. One of the main reasons that we currently do not have these answers is because the military has been incredibly silent about their own technology. Many rumors are circulating that the robotic equipment that they have been creating is far more advanced, but is going to cost nearly ten times the amount of money. There is already a list of soldiers, and non-soldiers, who would gladly control one of these machines. We could be seeing the evolution of fighting wars with machines and not humans. The future is bright for both the military and Robotex. I will keep you posted on what type of robotic war weapons that the company comes out with in the near future.
