These machines are compact in size, allowing them to get in tight, or low spaces that an upright vacuum would not easily reach. However, the manufacturers have designed them to perform touch-ups in conjunction with a standard vacuum, as opposed to replacing the standard vacuum all together. The robotic vacuums range in price from $50 - $2000. The vacuum runs on a rechargeable battery, the battery will be fully charged after about 3-7 hours, depending on the model of vacuum. The vacuum steers on it's own by alternating the power to each wheel. Generally, they have 5 motors, one operates the driving of the vacuum, two driving each wheel, one driving the agitator assembly, one driving the spinning side brush, and one driving the vacuum.
The robotic intelligent system is used in order for the vacuum to make decisions for itself. The microprocessor sends environmental data to the multi-sensors that make the robot function solely, with little human intervention. The system can adjust to new input about 64 times per second. An infrared receiver that is built in to the bumper detects the size of the room, and amount of time needed to clean the room. There are cliff sensors on the underside of the front bumper that prevent the machine from falling downstairs, or off any other declining surfaces. There are also side sensors that allow the robotic vacuum to clean close to walls and other obstacles without actually touching them.
You will still have to remove small objects from your carpet, or flooring area before allowing the robot to clean any room. All the dirt that is vacuumed goes into a dirt bin, this bin needs to be emptied, and it's probably best to empty it after each room clean. There is no vacuum bag, but you will need to replace the filter when it gets dirty, or clogged. The robotic vacuum is more suited to low and medium pile carpet, and is good for linoleum and hardwood floors. These robotic vacuums are ideal if you want a room cleaned while you are out for the day.

Post a CommentVery informative article.
These things are so cool. Thanks for the article. (I hear their outdoor cousins, the robotic lawnmowers, are big hassle and not as nearly useful.)
Fascinating! I could use one of those... :))
