"What is a witch?
Rochelle Moore
I am a Celtic eclectic Witch and my beliefs stretch back to the traditional teaching of the ancient Witches, Druids, Picts, Bards, Celts, Ovates and Shamans who have chartered their own course from the very beginning of time and are possibly the oldest known pre-Christian creeds in the world. Witches and Wicca, although close relations, are not the same. The Witch is universal and is not limited to the Wicca religion. The reality is that Witches in history were known as "Followers of the Craft of the Wise" and our belief system has been traced back to the Paelolithic eras where Archaeologists discovered cave paintings depicting our craft which are estimated to be 30,000 years old. The people of this time were in perfect harmony with nature and had an abundant knowledge of the powers of herbs, flowers, essential oils, the seasons and astrology and they lived daily by that lore. They were revered as Healers, Shamans, Witchdoctors and Druids and were placed highly in their community for their ability to cure."
So it is a very old way of life pre-christian - interesting! "Followers of the Craft of the Wise" (that I like) no nonsense and pretty straightforward. Then there is a "Gwack"! Now this I really loved a Gwack

For those who are familiar with my autobiography WITCH you will already know what a "Gwack" means"
The more we recover the true knowledge of our history as human beings the more we can see and identify the cycles of life and avoid the mistakes humanity seems to cycle through by trying to deny the reality of our roots and ancestry.
I am glad we live in a world to day where fact and sharing of information as well as dialog and debate and that We are reclaiming and rediscovering our Global magickal roots. It is a good thing.

"The following is an ongoing research project to understand some of the lore, legends and fallacies about ancient witches. The goal, to uncover ancient customs and reveal a character called a 'wys woman' or 'wise woman'. Some of the images contained in this section are of a medieval or Gothic nature. These images represent portrayal of witches in popular culture during the middle ages and renaissance periods. Much of what we know about witches today is based on superstitions conceived in Neo-classical art and Gothic literature.
Who are witches? People have different reactions to the word 'witch', "Spooky. Old hags. Taboo. Superstitions. Fear." People don't declare themselves witches often. What would a witch be like, one from long ago, in an ancient era? How would she talk? Was she political? Did witches actually brew herbs in a forest lair?
Origins of Witchcraft
What does the word "witch" mean? Witches are surrounded by such obscurity and mystery that we have to trace the origins of the word witch to understand what role this person played in society. If you want to get a reaction, ask someone what they think a witch is. People disagree on a proper definition - even "witches" themselves. It depends on our interpretation of the term.
A linguistics reference suggests: The root of "witch" in early language was wy-, "to bend, twist" having to do with trees: wyg-, meaning "elm" and wyt, meaning "willow" or artifacts woven or twisted out of them and the very concepts of weaving, twisting, binding and bending. These words began to evolve. Their pronunciations were changed several times, the connotations of bending and weaving, etc., were maintained and elaborated.
When we think of the word, "witch" consider the Anglo-Saxon wic-, meaning "to turn, twist or bend" later growing into "weak," "wicker" and "wicked," all based on bendable or twisted. In Old English, wicca/wicce became a specifically magical term. In Old Norse, the root vik- became "to turn aside, conjure away, exorcise." Germanic wik- became wikken, "to foretell" and Dutch wicker, "a soothsayer." The link between all of these roots is wys-, meaning "wise
Researchers discover the grave of a priestess, a seer, who used various rituals, some with willow, to advise Germanic tribes around 100 BC. The video suggests she may have performed her role when Rome's Caesar conducted his northern conquests. The personal effects found in the grave belonged to a woman with religious and political importance. She was found entombed on the Danish coast with Roman valuables and her own collection of antiques, such as a stone age axe. These antiques are considered religious artifacts. Researchers say her collection indicates a woman of "high status with a magical function."

Cool eh? I am now beginning to believe in this witch stuff. As a skeptic about witches this has now grabbed me big time. Now to the point of witchcraft which Rochelle answers brilliantly by quoting the following
""The point [of magic in Witchcraft] is to make the "bendable" world bend to your will... Unless you possess a rock-firm faith in your own powers and in the operability of your spell, you will not achieve the burning intensity of will and imagination which is requisite to make the magic work." -Paul Huson (1970)"
This woman has a brain! I am starting to like the views of the way she lives her life. Digging deeper she has a few books behind her and is working on book 5. She has been interviewed on radio, on TV and even here on AC. Oh and she has no warts on her nose; a pretty witch? More interested and it would seem she has many fans

" GENUINE WITCH healer Rochelle Moore and why! May 27, 2008 10:12 AM EDTviews: 96 | comments: 3 function resetForm(formId){ var form = document.getElementById(formId); if(form) { form.reset(); }}
Ok, so when you think of a witch a haggard wart-nosed hag comes to mind but this is simply not the case. Rochelle Moore is a fantastic author (amazon) and has signed a contract with (counterculutre books) info@greenmagicpublishing.com. So, what is a witch? A wise woman who uses Nature's gifts to heal, a person who loves the seasons and nature, a spiritual person who puts others first....
Yes, this is what a witch is. It is not a religion nor does Rochelle Moore have a wart at the end of her nose. She is a celtic witch and we sell her books online, KARMA and AROMATHERAPY & HERBALISM; Which are highly popular healing books.
Now to the base reason behind this article. I have Tinnitus and have had for the past two years. I googled Rochelle Moore and found out that she has a big fanclub in Europe, i wrote to them and asked for her email. I received it and when I wrote to Rochelle I really didn't think she would have the time for my problem but she did. She wrote to me three times firstly to give me old recipes to deal with and alleviate the ringing in my ears. The second was to explain and to find out how Tinnitus started in me and we got to the core issue. The third time she checked in with me about two weeks after starting a very simple herbal routine and the ringing had halved in my ears.
I wrote back to Rochelle after a month and VOILA - no more ringing. So, you see, that is what I call a real and genuine witch. A spiritual person who cares about others. She is a truly beautiful person and I am no longer having to live with constant ringing in my ears. You can contact her if you want. Below are a few of her contacts who will put you in touch with her."
She even has her own fanclub and is also a prolific writer on the paranormal and supernatural. She does a mean interview if you look at my own which she carried out some years back. I guess my perception of a witch has totally changed from a skeptic to a believer that there are many people who really do want to live their lives by the cycles of nature, are not materialistic and are genuine good people.
Where do I sign up?
