Rock Lives with Black Country Communion: Joe Bonamassa, Jason Bonham, Derek Sherinian, and Glenn Hughes Form Super Group

Mike Spain
Think Rock is dead? Then you need to listen to Black Country Communion's self titled debut album. It combines an established Blues guitarist stepping out into the Rock World, with a second generation Rock drummer, a keyboardist who has rocked with some of Rock's heavyweights, and a veteran Rock bassists and vocalist who helped fuel Deep Purple's "Burn" album. The result is a hard rocking album which grabs the listener.

The Blues guitarist is rising legend Joe Bonamassa. Joe steps out of the Blues and into the heart of Rock. The drummer is Jason Bonham, the son of the legendary Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham. Jason has followed in his late father's footsteps filling in for John art a couple of Led Zeppelin reunions. Jason has recorded with Robert Plant and toured with Jimmy Page. Bonham has enjoyed success as a solo artist and playing drums for Foreigner. Rock veteran Glenn Hughes joins the band on bass and vocals. Glenn honed is skills in bands like Trapeze and Deep Purple. The band also features the keyboard talents of Derek Sherinian who has worked with such legendary artists as Alice Cooper and Kiss.

Glenn Hughes and Joe Bonamassa are the chief songwriters for Black Country Communion. However, all the musicians contribute their wonderful talents on the project. The group's first single is "One Last Soul." There is talk of a possible tour later this year.

Track Listing:

1) Black Country

2) One Last Soul

3) The Great Divide

4) Down Again

5) Beggarman

6) Song of Yesterday

7) No Time

8) Medusa

9) Revolution in Me

10) Stand (At the Burning Tree)

11) Sista Jane

12) Too Late For The Sun

The first track " Black Country " really rocks and kicks the CD open. It is followed by their first single "One Last Soul." The group probably isn't concerned about singles with half the tracks on the album running over five minutes. "Too late For the Sun" is the longest song at eleven minutes and twenty one seconds. However, if you are looking for pop singles for the top forty charts this album isn't for you. If you are looking for incredible guitar playing, bombastic drums, a rocking band, and a vocalist who can belt out a song the Black Country Communion is exactly what you need. This is by far the best band Jason Bonham has recorded with and Joe Bonamassa is successful transitioning out of the Blues.
