Just one look at some of these artists, and you'll have to admit they know a little bit about being scary every day - not just on Halloween!
The Halloween Man-of-the-(Midnight)-Hour is Alice Cooper. His rock 'em, shock 'em looks and lyrics qualifies him for the number one spot on my Rock Music for Halloween playlist. Just because he's so scary looking all year long, and sounds like he gargles with razor blades, I'm giving him a two-for-one.
Welcome to my Nightmare I think you're gonna like it. I think you're gonna feel like you belong. muahahahahahaaa.... But wait, he can't be that scary. The Muppet Show had Alice on to perform this song coming out of a coffin!
Teenage Frankenstein is the local freak with the twisted mind. Women faint at the sight. He ain't no cutie-pie. He's not worried, like the rest of us, about his head being screwed on straight. He just wants to be sure it's screwed on tight! There's nothing like losing your head to make the ladies swoon!
Ozzy Osbourne lets loose with some chilling lyrics. He's on the prowl and when he finds who he's looking for, listen in awe and you'll hear him Bark at the Moon. Ozzy is definitely not Muppet Show material.
Warren Zevon, now there's a character for you. How can a person not like Werewolves of London? I'd be happy to go with him to Lee Ho Fooks to get a dish of beef chow mein. And afterwards to get a pina colada at Trader Vics. Those werewolves know what it takes to have a good night out.
What Halloween is complete without a Thriller? If those zombies get too scary, just line 'em up like Michael Jackson and get 'em dancing!
KC & The Sunshine Band gets down with I'm your Boogie Man. There are heavier, more metallic versions of this song out there, but this version actually boogies. So go ahead and open the door for him. This boogie man is a good guy and loves to party.
Blue Oyster Cult's Don't Fear the Reaper is such a classic, and oh, so romantic. The door was open and the wind appeared. The candles blew and then disappeared. The curtains flew and then he appeared saying, "Don't be afraid." I wouldn't know if he was a vampire or the reaper, but I suppose it would be too late to ask for ID.
The beat of this Eagles hit is going to get you moving before you even hear the lyrics. Witchy Woman is a restless spirit on an endless flight. The haunting imagery in this song will replay itself in your mind again and again.
Oingo Boingo is going to a party where no one's still alive. Everybody's coming to the Dead Man's Party, leave your body at the door! I usually just leave my shoes at the door, but, whatever...
Bobby 'Boris' Pickett & the Cryptkickers knew how to throw a Halloween party. Monster Mash used to be one of the first songs Dr. Demento would play for Halloween to get his listeners in the mood. The mad scientist watched as his monster got up and did the mash. It was a graveyard smash. It caught on in a flash. This song is catchy in much the same way. Lots of fun to listen and dance to. Even the kids will get a kick out of this one.
Tom Petty wants you to know that Zombie Zoo girls can be so impulsive, shaving off all their hair, looking like Boris Karloff and they don't even care. This is another tune that's likely to get stuck in your head.
Bonus song:
Aerosmith thinks that the Dude Looks Like a Lady and it's not even Halloween! This is a song dedicated to the ones who are just plain weird all year long. Ain't no shortage of these folks!
Happy Halloween!

Post a CommentGreat list:-)
Awesome list. Got to admit, never thought of Oingo Boingo at Halloween before, but certainly will from now on!!
Love Ozzie and the Eagles! Excellent list!
I love these! You really highlighted some great ones! Ones I listen to sometimes even when its not Halloween!!! =)
Great song choices and cute commentary. "Black Magic Woman" by Santana would have been an excellent song to include.
Another good choice would have been Fleetwood Mac's "Sisters of the Moon" or "Gold Dust Woman" Stevie Nicks is perfect for Halloween..
Perfect choices for Halloween!
Love your choices!
