Rock N' Roll Music, Where Are You Today?

When we hear the term rock n roll, many images become conjured up in our minds. Maybe we think of Elvis Presley belting out 'Hound Dog'? Perhaps we think of Led Zeppelin shouting out a live version of their all-time classic 'Stairway to Heaven'? Or, we may even think of Geddy Lee of Rush singing a lyric from their classic 'Tom Sawyer'. But what about today? Who do we think of today when we hear the term Rock n' Roll? Good question. It seems that no music groups today play rock n' roll anymore.

In the sixties and seventies, there was a wide variety of groups to choose from such as The Eagles, Peter Frampton, Fleetwood Mac, and so on for the rock n' roll fan. Most of these groups consisted of at least one virtuoso within their group. Led Zeppelin had their ace in the hole with guitarist virtuoso Jimmy Page. Boston possessed Tom Scholz, electronics and sound wizard.

And Fleetwood Mac had the mysterious and husky voiced Stevie Nicks, who influenced their fans not only musicallly but in the fashion line as well. The list could go on for so many bands of that era that influenced so many up and coming soon to be the next guitarist, vocalist, or drummer. But today this does not seem to be the case.

The reason is that no band today plays pure rock n roll anymore. If you were asked to name the five greatest guitarist of all time, I can almost guarantee that none of the top five would be from today's groups.

The reason is because it seems today's bands are all about image and not music anymore. Sure, their is some great music being made today by bands such as Nickleback, Beck, etc., but none of todays music could hold a flame next to 'classic rock' bands. Indeed video did in fact kill the radio star!!!

Have you heard the new Eagles album that just recently came out. I heard one of their new songs on the radio about a week ago and I couldn't believe it!
